Elusive cafe owner, Joel Plaskett Credit: via joelplaskett.com

Joel Plaskett loves this town so much that he’s opening his own business on Portland Street. What a meta Dartmouth moment. Soon, you’ll be able to take the Dartmouth ferry into the town, and spend your pennies bumming around—at a Plaskett cafe.

Last night both Halifax Retales and allNovaScotia reported that the former location of Dartmouth second-hand clothing shop, Uptown Girl (45 Portland Street) will soon be home to a cafe, record store (more specifically Taz Records) and barbershop.

We’ve gotten confirmation from Plaskett’s team that “it’s true, but premature”, so for now we’ll sit back and watch the pun-times roll.

  1. Nice “article”, you guys actually check into things like facts or you just make up whatever you like? Took me about 5 minutes to determine you got this completely wrong. Other then being the owner of the building, he records upstairs, he doesn’t own any of these 3 separate businesses. This article should be titled “Joel Plaskett Gets 3 New Commercial Tenants” The “cafe” you describe is 2 people that already work at Two If By Sea who want to sell their baked goods somewhere. The record store is just TAZ records, around for ages and NOT owned by Plaskett, and the barbershop is a guy who plays bass with him and has day jobs at 2 current salons owned by others and so is renting some of the space for his own business.

  2. EXCITED TO CHECK OUT THIS NEW CAFE BUT UPON ARRIVAL WE FIND OUT THAT IT IS NOT WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBLE – NOT IMPRESSED – DISCRIMINATION – YOU SHOULD NOT EVEN BE OPEN IF YOU CAN’T GRANT ACCESS TO EVERYONE!!! WILL BOYCOTT THIS ESTABLISHMENT UNTIL A WHEELCHAIR RAMP IS INSTALLED.
