What’s wrong? Expired elevator permit, Department of Public Works building, 1723 Hollis.
Who’s responsible? Steve Noade, elevator inspector, Department of Labour and Workforce Development, 424-5721.
Remarks: “In a perfect system, they should have their renewals in prior to year-end,” says Noade of elevator permit holders. But, sadly, this is an imperfect world, and so people crash to their death in elevators all over town. Well, actually, they don’t. As Noade explains it, building owners (in this case, the same province that issues permits) are supposed to get their renewals in on time, but they don’t, and he spends a few months chasing them down, even shutting down about a dozen elevators a year. That’s a long climb up the stairway on Hollis, so somebody ought get on the paperwork, pronto.
