To the editor,
Children seem to continue to be at risk in crosswalks in Nova Scotia and especially in the HRM. These children often receive multiple injuries. Small children seem especially at risk because it is difficult for them to see vehicles and for inattentive drivers to see them.
I believe additional resources need to be allocated toward keeping our children safe. Maybe children could wear fluorescent armbands, or the city could lower the flashing lights that mark the crosswalks. I also believe police and the courts have a significant role to play in preventing our children from being victims and statistics. Equally, schools could introduce a safety and prevention program.
