Last year we wrote that “Darren Fisher remains remarkably silent at council meetings, and votes more or less with the crowd. He gets high marks, however, because of his constituency work, which we are repeatedly told is the best of the bunch.”
Not much has changed. Fisher has an unhealthy obsession with sports, and so was a big cheerleader for last year’s stadium drive, but thankfully that issue hasn’t reared its ugly head this year. Instead, Fisher championed some modest, and necessary, renovations to and possible expansions of the sports fields at Beazley Fields. Good enough.

I am very happy with Darren’s work for us, he responds to all my queries. And this summer, we are getting a sidewalk on my street with a tree, about every 20 meters….trees on a street that is so bare of greenery. My home is one of two with some interesting details in the front, flowering shrubs and climbers. Thanks Darren, especially for the trees.
Tim, you have mostly ignored one of the most important achievements of this Council: voting to redesign our disastrous transit networks. It may not be as exciting as new tech or buying buses, but it is much more important. One of the Councillors who best understood the need for this change was Darren Fisher. Every time I have dealt with him on this issue I found him to be informed and thoughtful. Maybe he likes sports a lot, but I think it’s very unfair to suggest he is a one-trick pony.
His good constituency work is among the best “we are repeatedly told”. That’s solid reporting right there (sarcasm emoticon here).
