Go see this play. That’s all I have to say. Well, except for the fact that I sat in on an early reading, and it’s great–really contemporary, this ain’t your mama’s Neptune. The writers, Ryan Turner and Sarah Mian, are two of the most talented in the city, and Metamorphic won Best Production in the Coast’s readers’ survey last year. Apparently this compassion doesn’t stretch to confused teenage moms. Self-appointed god lyrics for “Throw Yourself Away.” Assholes indeed. Baby’s born on a bathroom floor/Her mother prays that it’ll never cryBut nothing’s wrong you’ve got your prom dress on/When they ask you’ll say “it isn’t mine.”You know they’re gonna know you lied/Why the hell don’t you throw yourself away?
Maybe, they’re cleverly ironic geniuses.
A pop music group with questionable and perhaps even offensive lyrics? What an amazing and unique observation. I’m sure this must be the first time it’s ever happened in the history of music or art.Censorship is the answer to this. While we’re at it, all those nasty rap fellas and anyone “dissing” god or the government should also be silenced! All hail the new non-offensive realm!
Woah, buddy. I think Tara was just pointing out the Hypocracy of this “If Everyone Cared” bullshit.”Censorship of anyone who’s dissing god or the government?” That would black out any good/progressive art or debate and leave our society in a stagnant mess. Dissing the government is the backbone of democracy. The idea that you have a right to analyze, question, comment upon (and yes, dis) what you see going on in the world around you is vitally important to a society’s survival and progress. Accepting the opinions of those in power as gospel truth is the old realm.. not the new. We call that totalitarian. And I call it dumb. You big dummy.
The concepts of artistic license, irony as well as sarcasm seem lost on you.
