In response to your article last week, I agree with the vast majority of what you said. One thing that I would like to add to the discussion that might be worth pointing out to your readers: The word “holiday” comes from holy-day. The obvious mistake that everyone is making is by continuing to use the word “holiday” for days that we celebrate our religious beliefs, and/or do not work. Is Canada Day a holy-day? How about Victoria Day…another holy-day?
Christmas exists; so do all the other Holy-days that people of various religions respect. Call them what you need to so we CAN distinguish them, don’t make them so generic and dumbed down to PC politeness by calling them “holidays” that we forget how different people are and why we need to respect each other.
