To the editor,

Recently, new superintendents were hired to manage our apartment building, and they just happen to be black. Before they’d even moved in, some tenants were spouting racial epithets in reference to them. These bigots almost seemed to enjoy mocking them by spewing out all the old stereotypes. Our new supers turned out to be hard working and two of the nicest people you could meet.

During the Sunday shopping debate, many of those in favour of Sunday shopping insisted that having the malls closed that one day a week made our province look backward. But not being able to shop at Wal-Mart on a particular day doesn’t make a place backward. What does is having people whose attitudes and way of thinking would have been right at home in the 1950s. They’re your neighbours too.
