I couldn’t agree more with what you’re trying to say in “Braking the habit,” but I think even this article gives HRM more credit than it deserves.

There is ONE bike lane on the Halifax peninsula: on Brunswick Street. Other places, such as Vernon Street and University Avenue, have signs saying “bike route,” with no lines on the road. This makes as much sense as having four-lane highways where people have to guess where the lanes are.

The man responsible for this failure in urban planning is David McCusker, HRM’s transportation manager, and I think it’s time he was replaced.
