Angela Jones and the city are having a court battle over whether she can be a candidate in the upcoming city election. Jones has filed her brief with the court today. Read it here.
The city is required to file its brief with the court by Wednesday. We’ll post that when we receive it.
Judge Richard Coughlan has set a hearing for October 1 to consider the matter.
Here is the agreed statement of facts in the case.
This article appears in Sep 20-26, 2012.

Mr Moir argues that a candidate can, in effect, lie, sign the oath, pay the deposit, submit the nomination documents and then the Returning Officer must accept the documents and add the person to the list of candidates.
He also argues it is not the job of the Returning Officer to ensure the eligibility of a person.
In the agreed statement of facts there is no indication that Ms Jones told her boss that she intended to be a candidate in any riding.
Apparently she decided that running where she lived, downtown Dartmouth, was too crowded, and Cole Harbour was a better choice because it appeared that there was only one candidate.
Mrs Jones can file her briefs with me any day, I am hoping that she will be in them when she does.
