2 cases and a major leap in vaccine delivery April 14

As we continue to request your patience for minimal case reports this week, let’s get to the day’s numbers.

The province is reporting two new COVID-19 cases today: “One case is in Central Zone and is related to travel outside Canada. The other case is in Eastern Zone and is related to travel outside Atlantic Canada. The people are self-isolating, as required. ”

There are now 42 active cases in the province—another welcome drop from yesterday. Provincial labs completed 2,154 tests of Nova Scotians yesterday (which is average for the last week). And there were a record 12,261 doses of vaccine injected yesterday.

That vax rate is amazing, a huge jump from the previous record of about 8,500 doses in one day, set last Thursday.

In less wonderful news, the province is also announcing that 18 positive cases have been identified as the B117 strain of the virus. “These were previously reported cases. Ten were related to travel, seven were close contacts of previously reported cases and the other case remains under investigation.

“This brings the total number of cases of the UK variant in Nova Scotia to 41. The number of South African variant cases remains at 10.”
