Get it through your head: you’re not Hispanic! Just because your step dad’s from South America doesn’t give you the right to start calling yourself Latina, and to say it to someone who actually is, is just not right!

Why are you going out of your way to seem “exotic”? It’s insulting to my culture for you to think you can just “fake” my ethnicity. You can’t dye your hair, cake on some bronzer, take some Spanish lessons, and then somehow magically turn South American. You took being fake to a whole new level. —Latina de verdad

  1. That’s almost as bad as white guys calling other white guys the n word….I’ve seen it often. And it’s not a crappy joke or whatever, they’re actually using it as a term of endearment….I dun get it.

  2. Oh, whatever OP.

So someone is proud of their roots, so what? My mother is from Germany and because of that I take a special interest in that country. I would love to learn more German. When I meet someone who was born there I always mention that my mom is from there, it’s called having a normal conversation.

She can’t dye her hair or wear bronzer? Those are extremely common normal things to do, who says it has anything to do with looking Latina? You look down on her for wanting to learn more of her dad’s first language?

Besides, as far as I know the word “Latina” actually means “American with Hispanic ancestry”. So technically, she is Latina.

There is so much bullshit in this bitch I’m not even convinced it’s real. Seriously, who sees hair dying as an offense to their ethnicity? This is probably just another fantasy race troll.

  3. Oh, “step” dad.

Everything I said besides he actually being Latina stands.

Having an interest in her step dad’s ethnicity isn’t a bad thing. If I had a Hispanic step dad I’d probably jokingly call myself Latina. Chill out.

Why am I even saying this? Troll troll TROLL.

  4. :-/

I think her point, snoop, is that her friend isn’t simply taking an interest in her dad’s heritage, but that she herself is saying that she is Latina, when in fact she is not. I can see that as coming off as quite offensive to someone who actually is.

  5. It could be so much worse. Perhaps her step dad introduced her to the ways of his homeland, isn’t that positive?

If it’s as obviously fake as you say, everyone will know the truth anyway, right?

She can’t change her DNA. So either she will someday make fusion Latino babies with a Latino man, or she won’t. Maybe she’ll have little white babies with fluffs of blond hair and the jig is up for good. For now, let her use her hair dye and makeup and try to be exotic and fabulous like you.

  6. I guess I am a self-proclaimed weeaboo/Japanophile, but most people think it’s funny/cute and not offensive ;D. Any Asian I’ve met likes that I want to learn about their ways and their languages :)! Oh and I don’t like anime or those other cartoony things…dun worry. Asian men are the hotttest in the world <3 and there's just so many of them :D!

  7. I dunno about this one…I think it’s all about cultural identification. Like, she might not be biologically “latina” but culturally she was probably immersed in latina culture and feels a part of that culture. I think the same goes for people who are biologically whatever and don’t identify with the culture so they don’t call themselves that. For instance: I qualify for aboriginal status, but I don’t identify culturally so I’d never call myself aboriginal. My mom’s family is french, but neither my mom nor I speak french, and with the exception of a few cultural traditions, I probably wouldn’t self identify as french. Same with my dad’s family — they’re german and I’m about as german as…someone who’s not german 😛

Why do you care so much, OP? Just be proud of the fact that someone respects your latina roots/culture so much that they want to be a part of it!

  8. Yeah my friend was adopted and his adopted parents are like a quarter or half native so he has native status without a drop of native blood in him but legally he’s native!

  9. That’s just it, I think it’s way more likely she joked about being Hispanic and OP pissed themselves over it for nothing. Grasping at straws, hair dye, and bronzer to make their outrage somehow more valid.

But on top of that I think it’s even more likely this bitch is fake.

  10. i wrote the bitch and its not fake. she was never immersed in any latin culture, she has no latin blood in her whatsoever, and its not like her step dad raised her as a kid and introduced her to his culture. she, for some reason, has just decided to start calling herself hispanic. the only reason i found out she wasnt was cuz her mom let it slip that her stepdad was infact her step dad not her real dad. and the thing is she goes out of her way to let others know she’s “not white”, she refuses to date white guys, and on plenty of occasions has bitched about white ppl having no culture. the chick is messed up!
