To the stupid highway-style bus driver who knowingly went through an amber light toward a line up of cars already blocking the intersection, and directly in front of the people waiting to cross the street at Barrington and Duke on Monday at about 12:55 PM.

WTF???? I thought you were a professional? That’s not a Smart Car you’re driving!!!! —Just trying to cross the damn street on a green light!

  1. I saw a lot of this happening downtown on the weekend, I’m assuming mostly tourists here for the tattoo. It was ridiculous though, especially on Brunswick. No one traveling north bound on Brunswick could get through the intersection, because some doofus decided to pull up into the intersection just as the light turned amber – despite the fact that he had been waiting behind the stop line while the light was green. Go figure.

  2. You’d be amazed at the crap these buses pull. Just watch what they do at both approaches to the MacKay bridge. They seriously don’t give a crap about other drivers. I could understand if the bus was on a set and critical schedule, but we all know Metro Transit doesn’t bother following their own schedule.

  3. I personally love the “I’m going straight, but I’ll let oncoming buses turn left in front of me” courtesy they extend to each other, fucking up the whole concept of right-of-way and its logic.

  4. NGF – I take offense to that question. I have 17+ years of safe driving of passengers buses. Started with school buses for 3 years then did transit in Montreal for a year and the rest is charter/sightseeing work.

I had one accident, my very first year driving, and my abstract has remained clean for all the other years. It takes a lot to keep control of a 9′ wide x 45′ or 60′ long x 10′ high vehicle that is on the road in all kinds of weather and surrounded by many, many smaller vehicles who are driven by people who don’t understand why they shouldn’t cut in front and slam on their brakes. I really wonder how many of those cut-off incidents ended in the driver shitting his/her pants after a blast of the airhorn.

I’ve taken enough defensive driving, public relations and first aid courses to last a lifetime and in the end all my bosses care about is making sure my passengers, the assigned vehicle and myself make the trip safely. I also have to worry about motorists and pedestrians outside who do stupid things that I have no direct control over.

I remember my first motorcoach trainer putting a glass of water on the dash and forcing me to do smooth take offs, braking, shifting and turns… his explanation was “… you have a wedding party on board and the bride has a glass of red wine in her hand while standing in the aisle – that glass of water is the red wine. Spill it and you’ve spilled it on her dress. That wouldn’t put you on good terms with the company or the clients” So far the lessons have worked, never done anything to have a beverage land on a passenger’s clothing.

So really, I think that makes me a professional.
