To all of you Haligonians that think your dog is trained enough to be off their leash, FUCK YOU. Its still a law! If your dog ever runs up to me to sniff around, I wont think twice about kicking it in the face. Lets call it self defense, for lack of a better term. Remember that dogs do not have the same rights as humans, and that will never change. If any dog gets into my personal space, it begins to look rabid.

some people are afraid of dogs, No matter how much of a sweet princess you think your beloved pet is and regardless of the breed. It gives some people a real panick attack to be approched by a dog they don’t know.
Its also a saftey issue for your dog and other motorist that may be near by, for fuck sakes put it on a leash!
I agree lovinglife, some dog owners think their dog is the center of the universe and really struggle to see the perspective of someone who is scared of them. I love dogs, but I also got nipped by a german sheppard off it’s leash. In the woods or closed off fields, cool what odds, but at least have some common curtesy on main streets and side walks.

I think keeping your dog on a leash is partly for the dog’s safety as well, isn’t it?
I see this one guy almost every weekend leave his dog sitting outside a coffee shop in the north end without a leash while he goes in and gets his coffee. The dog seems well trained, but what’s to stop it wandering into the street or getting snatched or something?

You two are quite the keyboard warriors. If your dog(s) attack someone, that person has every right to defend themselves in whatever manner they see fit. I’ve been bitten by god knows how many dogs in my life (I used to do lawn care). I don’t have anything against dogs because of it, but when I see a dog off it’s leash in public and it starts running towards me, instinct kicks in. I can tell pretty quickly if it’s friendly or not and if it’s unfriendly, expect my size 13 shoe to be firmly planted upside the dogs head. No way I’m letting myself get bitten again because idiots like you two think that it’s ok to let your dog off the leash. You seem to forget that dogs are animals, not people. They may be “like family” to you, but when it comes down to it, they are still animals that can attack a person/child for no reason at any time.

there are lots of off-leash areas in Halifax and they are ALL marked. if you have a problem with it, don’t enter the off-leash areas.
I do agree however, that if you’re walking your dog down the street, they should be on a leash. We keep our dog on a leash and praise her for walking past other pedestrians successfully. it is the owner’s responsibility to control their dog. remember, a dog is an animal
