I want nothing more than to throw that 0.19$ tip you left on your table for me in your face. All this after I served you with the biggest smile I could muster, laughed at your horrible and not funny jokes and made sure that you had a wonderful evening. I think you need that extra quarter more then I do. LEARN HOW TO TIP PROPERLY. WE REMEMBER. —Servers of the World

  1. Fuck I’m sick of tipping bitches.

Perhaps they didn’t leave you a tip because you are this fake barbie who is all “Tee he he, you are so funny” instead of just being sincere and real.

I wouldn’t leave your fakness a tip either.

  2. oh no, another one. here’s a hint people, even if service is lousy, leave at least 2 bucks. we have to cut down on these same type of bitches, or i will go fucking postal.

  3. I can see you going in to every restaurant and holding the patrons hostage demanding they leave a tip – 15%. We get a few people doing this and voila the tipping bitches will go. Either that or all restaurants have buffets, that would work too.

    Nice picture Z

  4. Wasn’t my $0.19 because I wouldn’t leave anything. You’ll notice a fat “0” on my credit card slip next to “Tip”. By the way OP, did you report all your tips as income last year? Likely not. So you deserve that $0.19 or less.

  5. I would have left you nothing, OP.

See, even when people leave something servers are still ungrateful little assholes.

  6. I know inflation eats our money but when did 0.19$ become a quarter? Couldn’t be referencing the Euro (0.260717 CAD)

  7. Ugh.
    Seriously?

Another ungreatful server who feels entitled. Great. Just what the world needs.

  8. I would LOVE to be tipped in chocolate coins if I was a server, Donk.

    Seriously, I’m not joking.

You should tip in monopoly money instead.

  9. I find tipping bitches pretty lame and the OP sounds like a bit of a goof…but really people, leaving $0.19 is kind of insulting.

I felt bad earlier today. I ate at a place on Quinpool and the waitress was great but I left less than 15%. I used the debit machine since I hadn’t any change and when put on the spot I couldn’t do the math properly quick enough. It wasn’t one of the machines that allows you to select “10%”, “15%” or whatever.

  10. I’m a server and have been for a very long time. Yes, it rots my biscuits when i don’t get a tip but I realize that tipping is not mandatory AND some people straight up don’t believe in tipping. I have a few regular customers that just don’t tip. I give them the same service I give to regulars that tip really well. That’s what happens in the service industry. You serve people.

  11. maybe they left 19 cents to make a point. When I get really bad service I normally leave a penny on the table so they know I didnt forget to tip, I just didn’t think they deserved it.

  12. UMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM Snooopers I’m gonna start doing that. Not a lie. I will go to the $ store and buy a baggie of chocolate coins and start to tip in chocolate. Yes, what a way. A sweet person 😉 tipping in sweet treats.

  13. Some of these responses sound as if they were written by people who have never worked in the service industry.

It comes to my mind yet again that in North America people should have to serve a mandatory year working in a service job. Much like other countries have military service (tongue in cheek people, let’s not get off topic). Only then will they truly understand what it’s like for those of us who do work these types of jobs.

People would do well to remember that minimum wage does NOT equal a livable wage. The easiest way to remain in poverty is to work a full time job for minimum wage. And here we aren’t fortunate enough to make $18 an hour slinging coffee like they do in New Zealand or something. Tips are what let us get by.

Servers, coffee shop workers and the like work their butts off everyday catering to the whims of their customers- running around getting them their 8th glass of water or some extra salsa or what have you… I may make crap tips where I work but I sure as hell make damn sure that I show my appreciation to those who wait on me.

  14. I work serving people and you’re all fucking pillocks. I tip quite generously. Plus if the waiter is sexy they get extra. A little T & A, gimme some good face and you might even get a chocolate coin.

    Shuffle off elsewhere dick face.

    I’m in a shite mood.

    Srry.

Now that I’ve thoroughly insulted you … we understand that people do work hard in the service industry and the people who don’t and ramble on about min wage etc … well they f off aswell.

  15. Sben and your different from those who work in fast food or gas stations or anywhere else minimum wage is paid – how? All those folks work their asses off to to satisfy customers.

  16. “People would do well to remember that minimum wage does NOT equal a livable wage. The easiest way to remain in poverty is to work a full time job for minimum wage. SDJKHFASASD THEY NEVER LEARN!!!

How many times do we have to say it? I’m not even saying it over again, I must have said it twenty times already. Can someone else who isn’t awake at 3am please reiterate exactly why the above quote is NOT A VALID ARGUMENT!?

    I”M SO TIIIIRED,,. !

  17. I agree, Snoop. What about all the other min wage workers out there who don’t get tips? I’ll bet a lot of them work just as hard.

And it’s not like this is Ontario where servers are paid a less-than minimum wage salary.

Suck it up. (though I’ll agree 19 cents is kind of a slap in the face — better off not leaving anything. I think that would be less insulting).

  18. i used to work at a place in s.s., called the wharf restaurant, remember that one guys? they had cheap ass bastards there, everyday, and no min. wage back then.
you got paid scab wages, and if you didn’t like that, well look someplace else.grant you that shit was a way lot cheaper back in those dark days of employment, but still.
we made something like 2 bucks an hour, and the then standard of poverty, was far above what you earned. yes, the service and server industry sucks, and i feel for all who are working in it. you will never get less than 15% from me, no matter how bad the service.
it’s just common fucking decency, and i know how hard some of these folks have to work.
if you or anyone reading and making comments, have never worked that stint, you don’t know the true issues there. and i suggest, that you try it, for even one fucking day, then you would run screaming, and pulling your hair out, just to get the hell away.
yes, you know who you are, there are a lot of cheap motherfuckers out there reading this. this is aimed directly at you.

  19. I’m with the OP.

Apparently, Nova Scotia is chock full of cheap bastards.

I’m beginning to wonder if there is an “East Coast” mentality when it comes to things like this.

  20. We don’t tip well because of these bitches, Comandante! I would like for once for a server to answer the god damn question we all asked about 50 times per bitch but never get an answers; WHY DO YOU THINK YOU SHOULD GET TIPPED OVER ANYONE ELSE THAT GETS PAID MINIMUM WAGE? And why should customers be expected to pay for the fact that you don’t want to bother with getting a career?

  21. I’m thinking that somebody stole OBs tip. I mean, who leaves 19 cents?

melectric – for excellent service that goes above what is expected, I’ll tip, not just restaurants.

I’ve worked in restaurants before (mind you, a long time ago), I never got a share of the tips, and I worked for minimum wage.

It’s nice to get a tip, BUT, you are not entitled to it.

  22. I didn’t say I was any different or better than those people working for minimum wage who don’t get tips. And since you used gas attendents as an example I’ll use that one to elaborate the flaw in your point. Gone are the days of “full serve” and now for the most part people working in gas stations don’t have to run after their customers continually satisfying their needs 10 times with each encounter. When do they ever have to clean up after a family who let their children terrorize the place and make huge messes everywhere. For the most part they get to stay behind a counter and ring people in when they come to them. That to me would be a luxury, tips or not. If I spend 15 minutes making lattes and hot chocolates and preparing food for people is it too much to ask that a dollar get chucked into the tip bowl (later to be split bt 3-4 people)? And as for fast food, although many places don’t tip there is nothing saying you can’t. And while I work at what would be considered a more expensive coffee shop I know for a fact that people working at Tim Horton’s make 8 times what I do in tips and they’re what…. Fast food.

In situations where giving tips are the norm, wages are artificially low compared to the work done, in an attempt to ensure that in the end the amount of work done/service received properly reflects the money earned.

And in many other minimum wage jobs- clothing stores, furniture stores, electronic stores work on commission as well. So the cost of that washer and dryer or that new Mac is artificially inflated so that the salesperson gets a little cut too. So basically, you’re tipping them too.

So many of us seem to work just to keep the lives people like those complaining running smoothly. Where would you be without your coffee, your gas, your new Maytag duo or the latest gadget. A little recognition for making your lives smoother and a little more pleasant is not much to ask for. If you don’t like tipping, stay home and cook, brew your own coffee, wash your clothes on a rock. Stay home and leave this sector of commerce to those of us who actually appreciate what others do for us and give a damn about not coming off like major a-holes in the process.

And holy circular argument, batman. You don’t tip because people bitch? I’m pretty sure someone, somewhere would have had to not tip first in order for someone to complain about not being tipped. And as for the ever-so-elitist comment about us not bothering to get “careers” you’ve got to be joking me. Many servers are young, putting themselves through school working these jobs. This isn’t the end of our working lives, it’s the beginning. I have a university education and I continue to work where I do because it’s stable while I continue to look for a job that better reflects my educational background. But in the meantime I think the service I provided warrants a small tip.

Yeah, given that I don’t troll around these websites looking for arguments to pick I’m not entirely up on the lingo, so I have no idea what SDJKHFASASD means. But I’m sure it was douchy.

  23. Well said sbenteau.

And in spite of their protestations to the contrary, I think many bitchers like tipping bitches because they offer them an opportunity to dump on minimum wage workers. If someone was to suggest a significant increase to the minimum wage many of these same bitchers would be howling in protest.

  24. I know I worked my damn ASS OFF working as a cashier for min wage a few years back. Sure I didn’t have to rely on that income because I was a student and was only working to keep a schedule (more disciplined with school when I have a job) and for some extra money, but point is: I never got tips. Not only did it progress my carpal tunnel in both hands to surgical level of severity, it was just….exhausting.

And if many of the people i worked with can make it by working there, I really don’t see how your “you can’t live on min wage!” argument holds up.

Look, I’m glad you guys make tips. I understand that you work hard, but stop thinking you’re any more special than anyone else and entitled to OPTIONAL gratuities. If you don’t pay for your meal, you can be arrested and charged with theft; if you don’t leave a tip, you won’t get arrested and charged with theft because HAY tipping’s OPTIONAL.

I tip 99.9% of the time (usually over 15% as well), but I’d stop that in a hurry if the people I do tip were ungrateful shits about it and felt they were entitled to it. Frig, one of the last times I went out I tipped 25% and even spoke to their manager about what a pleasure it was to have them as a server because they went above and beyond and brightened up my day. So don’t think those of us who criticize bitches like these don’t appreciate good service. There will always be bad apples in the bunch, but if you keep doing your job well, you won’t have to worry about being stiffed on tips.

  25. Sban, sorry, most of us have worked minimim wage jobs. I know I have. I’ve worked fast food and construction sites (carrying a lot of heavy shit) and never got tips. I was happy just to work. And BTW the gas attendents have to pay if someone gases and dashes just like a server but guess who doesn’t get tips to help out? Yes, I do tip but many factors are involved, especially the server’s attitude.

  26. I tip as well, usually more than 20%. How is cleaning up after a family and refilling drinks not part of your job? You think that deserves extra money? I can guarantee you I worked extremely hard in my cashier/supervisor days and I didn’t just “stand there and ring things in”! Are you kidding? It’s that kind of attitude from servers I hate! They think that fast food and cashier jobs are easy! Please, go work as a cashier for a week and then tell me how easy it is. You get screamed at every day for things like telling a customer (and owner of a convenience store) that they can’t buy all of a particular sale item (heck, some of them even throw the stuff on the floor like little babies), for putting shampoo next to dish soap in a bag because one might leak into the other and cause the death of someone, enforcing that customers must pay for items before they leave the store, etc. We also have to clean up after people *gasp*. That’s part of working at any job! There’s also a whole ton of promotions, rewards, sales, offers, etc you have to remember all the fine print about and you are forced to tell every single customer about. But for some reason, I understand that that was part of the job and didn’t think that doing what was in my job description was called “going above and beyond”. Too many people have that attitude today. Your job as working in the service industry is to serve people! To think that doing that deserves some sort of recognition is what I hate. That is what you sign up for when taking a job SERVING THE PUBLIC. Yeah there are some crappy people out there who looove to make service industry employees’ lives hell but that is just part of it and certainly does not warrant extra cash from the customer! Ridiculous! I guess I was just raised not to expect anything or any help from others and to get by on my own.

And about the tipping at fact food places, there is in fact some sort thing in place saying they’re not allowed to have tip jars and things like that but if a customer so chooses to leave some change behind then there’s nothing anyone can or will do about it. So yeah, there is nothing stopping anyone from tipping at those places and I do because I also worked at one of those horrible and easy fast food places you like to crap on and I know how hard it is, especially when people with your attitude come strolling through the doors.

  27. sbenteau – You’re seriously trying to answer by saying “but I work haaarder”? El oh fucking el. Tips are free money; they are not commissions, so there goes that fucking analogy. You really want to know what work is? Get your ass on a fucking construction site, or work as a janitor, or a sanitation worker, or laundry down at the hospital. Barring that, take pride in doing your Goddamned job well and be thankful you actually have one.
