Most employers only care about the almighty dollar. Not hard working employees. People are greedy and selfish.
Sometimes the higher-ups single out people for no good reason. I hasn’t happened to me but I’ve seen it happen to others. If you are as you say (a good, hard worker) then I wish you good luck and hope you do follow through with legal action and put bitches like this in their place!!

If you’ve been ‘replaced’ without valid reason, you might have a wrongful dismissal case. You can contact the Labour Board to inquire. Otherwise, enjoy the EI money…..heck, the fishermen do.

Forget about the The Labour Board — they are on the side of power and capital, not workers. You need to have labour laws and standards FIRST before you can enforce any laws and standards. And as everybody knows, NS has no labour laws nor any standards (that are real and not total BS). Hence the exploitation of our work force with such great ease; and why all talented and professional, skilled people LEAVE the province. AND the minute you start talking about laws and standards (living minimum wage, etc) BUSINESS pisses and moans about how ‘they’re going to lose money’ wah, wah, wah. The only reason why they make money is because they are legally entitled to exploit this province. IF we had laws and standards, we’d actually have to meet them. This would mean we would have to have skilled, professional, capable, ethical supervisors, managers, etc. You can see why THIS will never happen. Why would they ruin a good thing?

In any event, OP, you might not have a case if you showed up 1.5 hours late and they fired you. It’s unfortunate, but that could be their just cause.
And forget the labour board — they work for the employer when it comes down to it. It’ll probably just cause you more frustration than its worth 🙁
This really sucks, OP, but obviously it’s some sign you need to find other employment — some people just don’t like others for no reason at all. I have this very situation where I work, except the person who doesn’t like me only THINKS they’re my supervisor so my job isn’t threatened by them — it’s just annoying because they watch my every move and make passive aggressive comments constantly. It sucks, trust me, and you don’t need that shit.

Actually, OP _can_ get EI benefits if the employer has formed a record of arbitrary firings and disputes with their former employees. It’s generally handled on a case-by-case basis, but based on what I’ve read and depending on your length of employment, it’s possible for you to be granted EI after this. Use the time off to get your soul back and to brush up some skill set, then polish the resume and get back into the job market.
