What is the point of writing a resume if I also have to fill out a form with all the exact same information that’s on my resume? It shouldn’t take 40 minutes to apply for a job, I’m playing a numbers game here and you’re wasting my time. Just read my damn resume. —unemployed and annoyed

  1. It saves THEM time if they have a standard form to glance over, dipshit. If their initial perusal of your awesome resume passes the grade, I’m sure they will give a glance over to your personal resume.

  2. Not only does it save time as Cranky-pants explained but the application ensures that the applicant provides all of the basic info necessary for the initial screening.

I’ve been on many hiring committees and seen hundreds of resumes. Sometimes people leave the info that we need out of their resumes. If it wasn’t for the application, some of them would miss out on being interviewed. So the application ensures you get fair consideration during the first screening and you are compared to everyone else on an apples to apples basis.

And one more thing, the organization you have applied to may check you out on FaceBook and other social media – especially if you are applying for a professional position. If there is anything that could make you look like a douchebag/asshole/malcontent/potential problem employee you may want to get rid of some of that stuff. I overheard someone say one day that they dropped an applicant from consideration because of some disturbing stuff they saw that the person had posted on the web.

    Caveat poster!

  3. I once wrote a resume and it had my objective as well as previous work experience, education, certificates, volunteer experience, highlights of qualification and references. Sometimes i also had to fill out an application. Then i got a job and I worked there.

  4. If you don’t have the patience to fill out an application form, then I wouldn’t want you to work for me no matter what your qualifications are. I’ll also bet there is more information asked on a form than what’s in your resume.

  5. Finally! Thank you: “That’s Mr. zZz to you” and that’s “ad nauseum” isn’t it? :/

  6. If you’re asked to fill out an application, don’t give them a resume. Fill out the application and pass it in. If you provide all the necessary information on the form, you’re likely to get called for an interview (if one is needed.) If you make too much of the fact that you have a resume already prepared (and feel that you’re too good to fill out a form), that’s gonna be a strike against you.

  7. Numbers game? A game? Numbers? The only number you hold at the moment is the one to telefile your EI claim.

  8. Really? Complaining about what your potential boss wants you to do and you don’t even work there yet? Pull your fucking head out of your ass and just do what you’re asked to do, and stop complaining about shit. No wonder you’re unemployed!!!

  9. 40 minutes sounds like a bit of an exaggeration for the time needed to fill out an app, but as other said, it does provide a standard document that helps HR process large volumes of applicants efficiently by ensuring all the information required is always provided. It’s not like the resume would be useless if an interview were to follow.

  10. Hey, ass-mod.
You can try to keep silencing me all you like but it doesn’t make what you’re deleting any less true.
A douche, whether anonymous or not, is still a douche.
