To all the Halifax drivers who think that a Yield sign means alternating who gets the right of way (I go, you go)… YOU ARE WRONG! In particular the merge of Upper Water Street on to Barrington Street Northbound… The drivers on Barrington have the right of way and the mergers on Upper Water are supposed to yield. That means you ONLY go when you have space and please stop expecting me to stop or slow down when I’m on Barrington to let you in! I have almost creamed my car twice now in a few short weeks because of some weird, unspoken, unwritten Halifax rule-of-the-road where people think they can go. Yield means yield, people – slow down, look, go only if you have room!!!

(And while I’m at it, please don’t create one long single lane of cars when merging on the MacDonald bridge just past the tolls. Get all the way up there and fill that space.) — I Know What Yield Means

  1. Same applies to the corner of Dutch Village Road (out of Fairview) and Joseph Howe heading towards the Rotary. There is a YIELD sign there, so when you see cars coming down Joseph Howe, don’t pull out and then block both lanes to get into the left lane.

  2. usually only those with a working brain, really know how to yield. most times it is vehicle already in circle, or at sign first, or vehicle on right that is sposed to let you go. but then again, THIS IS HALISUCKS.

  3. THey don’t understand the rules of the road at all…not just YEILD, but MERGE !
STOP, almost no one actually stops at a stop sign…they
just sort of slow down a bit ! ! !

My least favorite asshole is the one who stops for no reason & lets someone out of a driveway, adjoining road etc….aren’t they nice to that person while being an inconsiderate DICKHEAD TO THE 20 PLUS CARS STUCK BEHIND THEM !

  4. I don’t even know where upper water street is, lol. Ugh but yes ppl in general suck at driving. This topic enrages me like no other!

  5. I had just had to comment on this one because I love your new name Donk! I’m having “Breakin” flashbacks….you made my morning!

  6. If it is a rush hour traffic situation then common courtesy comes into play. The old one for one rule helps keep traffic flowing in all directions. I am not saying stop to let someone in but if you are already stopped in traffic then let one car in, in front of you and then the car behind you does the same and so on. helps keep all roads moving.

  7. Unfortunately, Kirbul, common courtesy (like common sense) isn’t all that common these days.

  8. Totally agree with Kirbul. It’s an asshole thing to do to not let someone in when you are at a standstill in traffic.

  9. I notice this all the time too, mostly cabbies shooting up that street and onto the bridge

  10. I’m with Kirbul too.

Yield does mean yield, but it doesn’t mean make said person wait an hour to get out onto a road because it’s too busy and no one has the common courtesy to let them out.

Not to mention, stop blocking cars on roads waiting to turn onto a street when a light is red and you have to stop anyway!

And More, if it’s a busy time of day and a street is jammed packed full of cars, and because no one knows how to show common courtesy to other cars on the road, I will stop to let them out on the road because that’s the only way they are going to be able to turn onto said road.

  11. Thanks darlin’. I actually do know where that is now that you’ve said that. Isn’t it supposed to be under water in a few years or something? Or at least that’s what the green ppl say at Dal. … but that’s for another bitch.
