As an employee who is forced to pay into a pension – that I have no illusions will be there for me when I retire – why it is this government is focused on forcing DHAs to be a part of unsustainable and expensive pension and benefit program at the detriment of patient care?

If the province wants the hospitals to live within their means, they will have to give them the tools to enable them to spend their budgets as they see fit.

I’d be more than happy to donate the $10,000 I am forced to steal from taxpayers for a “pension” that is a condition of employment – thanks to NS government policies – that I’ll never see, and get my $4000 a year back I am forced to contribute as well – if it meant good and competent employees wouldn’t need to be fired, and that patient care would be affected the least amount possible.

I think government has to get its priorities straight – Do they want to make their buddies at the NSAHO and the insurance companies happy – or patients – which is it? —No Illusions

  1. If you don’t like the policy, QUIT for fuck’s sake. Your pension is there for a reason, and you are obligated to pay in for a reason. Obviously you misunderstand the point of them. Maybe you want to live in a culvert.

  2. Keep working there until you hit 40 and then go somewhere else.
Take out your money and manage it yourself because if you die before 65 the money will be in your estate and not paying the pension of someone who lives to 99.

  3. I don’t want to be a part of the pension.

I want that money put into healthcare.

    Whats wrong with that?

I’ll be just fine without the government, or anyone else, telling me what to do with my own money.

And if anyone is going to be giving financial advice (let alone be “stewards” of my retirement) it sure as hell ain’t gonna be the fucking government of nova scotia.

So yeah I will have to quit to get what I want, because the union loving fuck nerds run this shit hole of a province. Union loving fuck nerds like Sebastian who wouldn’t know what to do if he had choices in life and didn’t have some fucking pinko commie telling him in excruciating minuae how to run his daily life – he is meant to be a nova scotian.

But since I don’t want to be forced to rip off the tax payer to have a decent job, I am not.

And – the NSAHO won’t let you roll in your pention into an RRSP for a home, won’t let you take it out until you are 65 or dead – and by the time either of those happens, everyone’s pension money will have been pissed away.

    Sigh

  4. most governments are like leeches, sucking at your blood. in this case, it is your cash, and if you ever see a pension payment, then you are lucky. i’ve paid in for years, and still am, on self employed earnings. hopefully, someday, i will be able to completely retire. but am i holding my breath, no fucking way. by the time i’m ready, there will probly be no real government, just more of a dictatorship, like we are starting to see at present. save us oh terminator one.

  5. “Do they want to make their buddies at the NSAHO and the insurance companies happy – or patients – which is it?”

    um, their buddies.
I would have thought learning about the pension plans the government officials get when its drawn was enough to answer that question.

  6. You DO realize NSAHO isn’t NSAHO anymore, right?

    Idiot.

I didn’t actually think anyone WANTED to live in a box eating dog food during retirement, but I guess you’ve proved me wrong, OB.

I’d much rather have 10k in my pension fund, to be honest, than another employee hired or whatever. I’ll take my own financial well being over worrying about someone else’s any day of the week.

Take care of YOURSELF, because no one else is gonna.

  7. Well if it weren’t obvious already I’m the OB.

The NSAHO/Health Association of Nova Scotia, what’s the difference?

You’d rather steal from taxpayers than do your own thing – how admirable PK. I thought the government and the unions were going to take care of you? lol.

Just another Nova Scotian with a split personality. You’ll take all of the free money you can off the backs of people making $10 an hour who are paying into your pension, yet you then spin it so that you are looking after yourself… laughable. If it weren’t so fucking sick.

That’s exactly my point – I want to look after myself. That $4K I am forced to pay into the pension I could invest in a house or something more useful to me at my age. The tax payers contribution I’d be more than happy to see put to something useful, like health care.

I’m not a nearly dead – maybe you are and are readying yourself for the taxpayers teet (with your ridiculous defined benefit pinko pension)

You are stealing money from everyone else to pay for your own retirement greed – and the funny thing is, in 20 years, it won’t be there anyway. Hope you are proud of that. I’d bet all the check out girls, gas station attendants, and fast food retailers are really happy that you think you will have a comfortable retirement thanks to THEIR tax dollars.

Don’t worry PK, I’ll be next door to your box eyeing your cat food from my box. I’ll trade you for some Alpo.

  8. Well, I worked for the Tax-Payers for over thirty years, I paid into my pension fund the whole time.

I paid for it, I worked for it, I risked my life for it, so as sure as fuck, I’m going to use it.

I also paid for my disability insurance, should I give that money back too?

  9. I’m not asking anyone to do anything – I am saying I wish I didn’t have to steal money from taxpayers to contribute to a pension I don’t want. Especially in a time when they are cutting back services to everyone, because a very small piece of the pie is taking something that isn’t eheirs – and they are mandated to do so – and there is no way to opt out.
