I have no problem with women breastfeeding in public places… but is it really necessary to do it in the shoe aisle at Value Village?
Just pulling one out of your already low-cut shirt and putting your baby to it, where EVERYONE can see EVERYTHING??!!
You could have gone to your car (I know you had one because I saw you get into it when I left) or at the very least, used the GD blanket that you had on your lap to cover yourself!!
I would have said something to you, as I usually speak my mind to anyone, but after your nasty reaction (really???) to a man that you caught looking (DUH!!), I figured you might haul off and slug me. You were trashy looking so I suspect you would have done just that.
Next time, don’t be so “surprised & insulted” when men stare at you while you are hanging it all out!! Perhaps that was your intention… —Boob + Baby = Blanket

You are rude and ignorant. We weren’t born with clothes and it’s ridiculous that a mother can’t feed her child WHENEVER/WHEREVER the baby is hungry! People like you are the reason why women breast feed less than they used to and why so many babies are unhealthy. Breastfeeding is good for babies. If you can’t deal with breasts, then YOU should be the one to f*** off out of public, not the breastfeeding mothers. Jerk.
app…. uh, speaking of rude and ignorant…. meet kettle.
where’s your stat or basis to back up “women breast feed less than they used to ” cause I wasn’t aware of that at all.
in fact, just to test, I threw it in google and came up with this
http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/1…
not sure if it’s valid or not, but I couldn’t find any others saying it’s on the decline….
But honestly, if you’re going to be whipping out jiggly bits in public, you’re going to have to expect people to at least glance… if not just to realize what is happening before averting eyes… or taking out cell phone….
Why should this woman go to her car to feed her baby? If the kid was sucking on a bottle would you demand she go to her car to feed the baby then? What about if you were eating a sandwich — do you think it would be fair for people to demand you go to your car to eat or put a blanket over YOUR head. Trust me — watching some people eat is far more obscene than watching a baby breast feed.
And actually, zZz, I think women are breast feeding MORE these days. In the 50s women were taught that breastfeeding was “gross” and “unnatural” and encouraged to use formula…and guess where the messages originated? Formula companies.
Only thing I can’t stand about breastfeeders are the ones who look down on women who don’t breastfeed. There are some women who don’t because they can’t get enough or any milk for their kids. I told a very pro breast feeding friend of mine that and their response was “well obviously they didn’t try hard enough!” Good grief! And some women just don’t like it, and it’s their right.
Regardless: it’s a tit, and it’s primary function isn’t to turn anyone on our be obscene: it’s to provide food to their offspring so get over it, OP.
It’s the most natural thing in the world; less so when there’s a kid hanging off it.
kitty, that article actually states just that… it’s actually increased quite a bit.
and I support it as well…
I have a stewie shirt that says “Breast Fed”
Breast feeding in the shoe aisle at Value Village. Some of you think that’s respectful and worth defending? The infant doesn’t deserve a calmer setting while nursing? This is appropriate and acceptable to some of you people? I’d take a few minutes to find a quiet corner if I were feeding him with a bottle, never mind my breasts. I think this woman’s choice was selfish and distasteful and not real conducive to a good feeding for the child. I hope I never run across a scene like that while I’m searching for deals at my favorite Value Village store.
I’m thinking that the country phrase “Take a picture. It’ll last longer” has now come to mean an open invitation to deploy the camera-phone.
Ya, I’m wondering if folks missed the part where OP suggested they just pull a blanket up. That the breastfeeding mom was angry when people were watching… uhh… so put on a blanket or go somewhere quiet. I agree with breastfeeding, but there are modesty issues too. You can’t walk through Value Village with your breasts hanging out if you DONT have a baby, right?
if it offends you that much, don’t fucking ogle the breastess, feeding kids this way is not only natural, but good for the mental health of said kid, later on in life. which brings me to you, you must have been a slingshot fed child, were you?
The store I work in offers our large family change room to breastfeeding mothers. It’s quite nice actually with a sofa and foot stool and two extra chairs for the other kids/family members.
I would think walking through value village (with or without a blanket) wouldn’t be ideal for breastfeeding. Doesn’t seem like walking/shopping/breast feeding shoud all be happening at once.
I have also encountered breastfeeding women who don’t use descretion…I’m not talking about putting the baby in a sealed chamber surrounding your boob or anything but there’s always a few morons who think it’s fine to whip out a bare tit and let it hang whether or not the baby is attached to it yet.
It’s disrespectful to everyone, the baby, the public and mothers who breastfeed with descretion.
Most mothers I have seen breastfeed can unbotton a blouse, feed the baby and button back up with little exposure of the breast.
As much as people say it’s a body part meant for sustinance and not a sexual organ…sorry, not in Canada it’s not. Just try hanging out the “Dukes” on a hot day and see what happens
Poor you, OP, having to withstand a partial glimpse of breast as a hungry little baby drinks from it! Tell me, what is it about seeing a portion of breast that offends you so much?? is it because she was dressed “like trash” and happened to be feeding in the shoe aisle of Value Village? OOOh…how uncooth! Is that what made it so crude to you? Likely it’s just your mind that’s in the gutter. With your opinion, I think we all know who the REAL trash is.
That was great, Pretty Kitty! I’d much rather see a woman breastfeeding her baby than watch some adult obnoxiously snarfling food in to their jiggling, open-mouthed-chewing gob… bits of sandwhich flying as they loudly masticate while yaking into their cellphones!
If the mother had let the baby cry in hunger until she walked out the store to the car, someone would have called the social services claiming abuse. Or someone would have been offended by the crying baby, thinking “how could that mother let the baby cry so much!”
It was actually smart for her to feed the baby right there. As for the guy who was staring at the boobies, you should have told him to grow his own so he can stare at them all day long.
I’m pretty sure if I walked around with bare breasts I’d get arrested. But it’s okay if I have a baby with me? haha okay. That’s probably the same with a lot of things…people are too afraid to say anything to a mom with a baby because they’ll usually turn it into something big and stupid….like that thing a week ago, I forget where it was, somewhere in NS, where some mom was at an insurance place or something, ASKED the insurance broker if she minded if she breastfed her child right there and they insurance broker said yes, the mom flipped out and called the media. My mom and I were watching the news when this story came on and we so disgusted at the mom for making a huge deal out of nothing. I don’t think the insurance broker would have said anything if the mom just did it without asking, but since she did ask and didn’t get the answer she liked, she threw a tantrum like a 3-year-old.
We’re all missing the most important thing here.
How did the titties look?
At my new job, I was trained to offer a discrete spot for breastfeeding mothers. I believe that’s the best thing to do, instead of getting upset at them or staring at them. Just gently suggest that they go to a change room or help them find a spot with low to no traffic.
I’d rather see a woman’s breast in public than a half naked man with massive beer gut any day.
I had to chime in here, if for no other reason than that the OP could have a gander at my profile pic ….
I highly doubt that the nursing mom was wandering through the shoe aisle at Value Village with her boobs hanging out. Breastfeeding in public is often an awkward process: struggling with your clothes, struggling with a squirming baby, feeling stressed about having to put yourself on public display just so you can feed your child because some people just can’t imagine a woman’s breast as anything but a sexual object…. If the nursing mom gave you a dirty look maybe it was because she was picking up on your hostile attitude and was trying to tell you to back off without alarming her baby.
Newtohalifax is right, when a baby demands to be fed the best thing to do is to feed the baby. Sure it would be nice if every public place in Halifax had a clean and tranquil room set aside for nursing mothers but the truth is that most public buildings aren’t set up with nursing moms and children in mind. I always feel incredibly self-conscious when I’m breastfeeding in public but I’ll be damned if I’m going to smother my kid with a blanket when he needs to eat just to protect the sensibilities of some self-centered prude.
Suck it up and shove off.
She probably calfed the kid in the linen section.
For fuck’s sake, it’s only a tit. Get over it.
b/d/. a fucking men to that. if a guy or babe wants to get all horny looking at a tit, go get a fucking porn movie. if i was a female, my boobs would be jutting out like two fucking lances. and to those prudes that think breastfeeding is disgusting, go pump sand up your asses. it is cool, and natural, go girls, go. the suckster supports this 1000%.
As I said earlier this week I fully intend to the leave this life as I entered it. Fat, bald, cranky and with a mild boob fixation.^^
If it offends you so, OP, throw a blanket over YOUR head! God forbid we someday come to accept the breast as a food source, which is, FYI, its primary biological function. Jackass.
Toots seems to be the only person who actually understood my bitch intention, and said it much better than I did. I understand that breastfeeding is natural & healthy, that was not my issue. The bitch was about the mother, NOT breastfeeding in public.
By the way BreedingDissent, your comment “I highly doubt that the nursing mom was wandering through the shoe aisle at Value Village with her boobs hanging out. ” She was doing just that. No exaggeration on my part there.
Women can legally go topless in Ontario. A friend of mine is a server and the other day this old bag lady panhandling for money took her shirt off and was walking beside the restaurant patio topless asking random people for money and there’s nothing anyone could do about it (well, the topless part, anyway).
Regardless, sure, it’s probably a tacky place to feed an infant, but how many times have you seen a baby in a stroller with a arrowroot cookie or a cup of cheerios munching away in a store? None of you would say shit about that. Maybe some of YOU should try eating with a blanket over YOUR heads.
I agree that the mother shouldn’t expect people not to look — she *is* in public after all, but these arguments stating that breast feeding mothers should go to their car, or the washroom, or a special change room or should put a blanket over their kid’s head while they’re eating need to fuck off unless they’re prepared to go eat THEIR lunch in the washroom, or their car, or a special change room or with a blanket over their heads.
Mmm sandwich eating while someone’s taking a dump in the next stall…mmm… appetizing!
When I was a server a mother changed the baby’s diaper in a booth. Left the diaper for us to clean up too. lol Compared to that, I think breastfeeding in public is WAY more acceptable.
Nature calls!
I would just like to say that I have no issue with women breastfeeding in public, and in particular, I do not mind watching women breastfeed in public. It’s very natural and very sexy… err, I mean, “beautiful?” Uh oh… OK no more drunken posts for tonight!
Okay, BWN, I’ll take your word for that. I can’t say I’d have the balls to do that.
i wonder if your mom ever fed you in public because you were hungry?
god, tits and ass are all over everything, its not RIDICULOUS to see a real life one in the context of FEEDING ANOTHER HUMAN BEING!
and if i caught some creep starting at my breast feeding tit i would give him a look too, because there’s nothing to fucking look at!
it never ceases to amaze me how moronic some people are, especially when they probably buy magazines, watch tv and go to the movies or wear their own clothes in public with their tits and ass hanging out but all of a sudden a breast feeding mom is skanky and out of line?
shut up
and breedingdissent said it very eloquently.. haha
i would rather just tell you youre a moron.
also, newtohalifax, i had a similar experience as a server. cleaning up a hot diaper on a table where people are eating next to you is not cool. however, there are no change tables at my restaurant so i can’t really blame the mom for changing the baby there… but she could have at least put the diaper in the garbage for me. maybe she left it on the table as a hint to get a change table, even though thats not a waitresses fault haha
I have no problem with women breast feeding, as long as they have no problem with me looking.
Simple
You don’t want others to look ,do it somewhere else…because that’s your problem …not the viewing public’s.
Hey LOOK !
Real Live titties in aisle 3 !
Tempest in a D-cup
So I need to apologize for the way my bitch sounded. I was already in a bitchy mood and I did not express myself well, at all.
My issue was with the mother, in general. She was loud, aggressive & foul-mouthed, and it was the way in which she chose to breastfeed her baby that I took issue with. I could try again to say what I meant to say, but I’d be here forever trying to do that.
I was pissed already at the day I had, and nothing I said here came out right. Sorry peeps.
A little privacy or discretion would go a long way for women who are breastfeeding. You don’t see guys whipping out their meat in public and waving them around as they go to urinate. Discretion people.
bad comparison sebastian. Though I think men should use discretion when whipping out their meat to feed their partner 🙂 The error was trying to say feeding was the same as pissing, but oooops, forgot about the watersports crowd so thats technically feeding… ah fuck it. never mind.
I feel sorry for men who are so desperate that they must ogle at every breast they have the pleasure of encountering in public. I’ve been offered a sight of men’s genitalia in public (i.e., flashers) but I declined. (A couple of guys actually asked if I wanted to see it, so I said no thanks and walked away.) Really, it isn’t that exciting to see.
Considering that the purpose of the female breast is to nurture infants, isn’t it somewhat infantile of adult men to want to suckle? A baby latched onto it’s mother’s tit is the most natural thing in the world. Isn’t it just weird and unnecessary how some people are uncomfortable in the presence of a breastfeeding infant?
“I feel sorry for men who are so desperate that they must ogle at every breast they have the pleasure of encountering in public.”
awaiting the usual ‘girl power’ crowd to jump on and decry that it is all of them….
that we’re all the same….
I can tell you, there are some that should not be seen.
If people of walmart have taught us anything…
for me it’s a matter of cleanliness. How dirty is value village, her hands, etc. I would prefer to go somewhere and clean my hands before grabbing my boob and placing it in my child’s mouth. I could care less if someone stares but personally I would not breast feed in the middle of a store. Too many creepy crawlies out there…and not just people.
Nice Mr. Q and that’s the way it should be. 🙂
I have no problems with women breast-feeding in public, I do however, think it deserves a bit of decorum, when out in public. We are not cave dwellers, gees!!! A happy relaxed mother makes for a happy relaxed baby. Grab a chair and enjoy!!!
But mostly, if you are going to be breast feeding while walking, talking, sneering in the aisles of Value Village that in itself tells me this bozo is out to right field….I feel sorry for her off-spring already.
Breast feeding is just that — giving food to one’s child. It should be celebrated, for crying out loud.
And I think a woman should be able to go topless. Why not, men do? One day we will look back on these archaic and sexist laws, and have a chuckle. Why are breasts so threatening to some? Breast phobia, mebbe?
