Even with a staff of the best workers an employer could ever dream of, you continue to treat your employees like shit. You deny the kitchen staff any incentive and regularly demand they work well past their quoted hours and you obviously have no respect for your customers to be buying expired meats in order to save a few lousy bucks to pay for your fucking maid and brat kids’ sports teams. You don’t even have the respect to speak with your employees, but rather send your goddamn rat to entrap them and then report back what was understood to be a private conversation. You wonder why everyone has been quitting, why you can’t keep an employee for longer than a month at a time. You disgust me, you’re petty, and you’re doomed for failure. Soon, you will be exposed for the hack you are. Rot, bitch. —Worker

i know you can’t name names, maybe a hint? i think i know who it might be
You do understand using expired meats is a public health concern to the point of endangering lives and you MUST report this to the proper authorities? If someboy’s child or elderly parent dies because they have a weaker immune system and can’t fight off an infection you’re going to wish you acted sooner and didn’t shrug it off.
Serving expired meat is pretty disgusting. Perhaps you should make a phone call to the health department before someone gets ill. What a ditchpig!!!!
Is this place in burnside perhaps?
yes, definitely call the health dept. the only restaurant i worked for in halifax, our health inspector would eat there, because she know it was clean. there must be better places you could work in, op
OP, with bitterness like that, I doubt that you will ever perform well at your job.
you can’t perform well if you don’t have good materials and leadership
Seems things do not change in the food service industry. It is a cut throat business and often run on thin margins, so almost a prime area for staff abuse. Thankfully I have never had to work in such a place, but friends had similar work experiences in the 70s and 80s in the metro area. They were eventually able to get out of the trade and on to other occupations. Some of the rotten owners eventually went out of business, but not all.
It is a tough business to work in at the best of times, but worse when staff and the public are treated like dirt. Often the public have no real idea how bad some places can be – unless they become ill. I try to avoid restos as much as possible, unless I know the background of the place.
Too bad working conditions have not improved a lot over the years, But it seems that owners are often able to continue getting away with a lot. Can be a mix though as some good owners get ‘taken’ by lousy staff at times, as well.
*wafer thin* margins d guy…nothing has changed, you’re right
Just as some new parents are not qualified or skilled enough to successfully have children……..some entrepreneurs are not qualified or skilled enough to successfully have staff.
I’ve worked under many people. Very FEW were good at being in command……..and honestly……..I too may fall into that category.
But, like an unskilled new parent, where love will see them through, while they slowly gain the wisdom to succeed……..so too can love save the bad boss from utter failure.
It’s unfortunate, for all concerned, when fear & hatred prevail rather than love & understanding.
Very good Smee!!
Expired meat? Are you kidding me? Where is this death trap? They’re soon to have expired customers.
yeah, but then you might get staff that will walk all over the owners too.
First – don’t everyone shit and jump the gun on me, I am from BOTH sides of the fence, waitressed for 20 years and got THAT perspective, and now a business owner in a totally unrelated field. I had a very long conversation with one of my best friends today who happens to be a restaurant owner and if what he puts up with is an indication of what other employers have to deal with in this industry(and I know FACTUALLY it is) you snotty little servers need to sit the fuck down and imagine yourselves on the other side for a moment…if you will…
WEEKLY, he has to fire someone for theft. Helping themselves to food, comping meals and pocketing the cash, managers messing with inventory to supplement their home parties..most recently, his wife RANG IN and paid for a piece of cake to take home, told the BRAND new cook to box it at the end of the night as it was for her. When she went to get it, he winked at her and said “I put an extra slice in there for ya”… His mistake I guess for not knowing it was the bosses lady he was hookin up with cake, but FUCK, if the new guy pulls this shit on the first day..come fucking on!!
Food, booze and money ‘walk out the door ‘ daily in the restaurant/bar biz…who do you think takes the fucking lo$$ for that!? So while you whiny fucks are passed out drunk @ 2 am after blowing your hard earned tips at the palace, that BITCH boss of yours is probably lying awake with a knot in their gut wondering if they’ll ever have a dependable enough staff to keep business afloat OR is ‘suzy’ gonna call in sick with crotch rot at the last minute again tomorrow fucking the day up because everyone else is too busy to come in to cover the shift ( yet the first to complain about not enough hours and the ‘injustice’ of minimum wage) OR
will they have enough cash flow to make payroll this week to pay the theiving scum that they are stuck with, and pay their suppliers, and rent and utilities AND the fucking government, OH and not to mention being able to pay for their personal groceries and mortgage and car and their bratty kids sports teams AND even their maid if they so desire..cause guess what!!? They ARE fucking entitled…you don’t like it? Then go start your own fucking company…if you tap into the honest, energetic, NOT whiny, self-important or entitled employee market (who actually want to work) please forward that information…now grow up and fuck off
Don’t worry Angela, I don’t like to jump guns. Thanks for the perspective from the other side. However this particular person seems to be a piece of work. I agree the maid and sports teams are none of OP’s business but the expired meat is hard to get past. That’s just plain dangerous and should be reported.
Yo Angela, I think you totally missed the points in the bitch. The boss man is exploitative, manipulative, and deceptive. That’s not okay. As for your friend, it sounds like he’s doing a piss poor job of running his restaurant. Factually, I know not all restaurants are as out of control as you describe.
“I’ve worked under many people. Very FEW were good at being in command.”
You’re right on that, Smee. I’m lucky enough to work under a fabulous manager. I haven’t been so lucky in the past. I’m hoping as a manager myself, I’m decent. Personality-wise I always treat my staff with respect and I’ve never once been shitty to them, but I fear I might still need some work on the whole delegation/discipline thing.
Well, I understand the Angelica view…….but I have a hard time relating to that poor a work ethic that she portrays of the people she speaks of.
Granted, it is getting harder and harder, even in Canada to find anyone with real integrity. Police officers, priests, coaches, politicians, teachers, investment brokers, military people, etc…….a constant river of people popping up in the news without a shred of integrity!!
I work hard and…..I don’t know….”honestly.” I value my integrity more than anything, I’m serious, I do. You have to answer to yourself. I have pretty high standards and I try hard to meet those standards. This is my most valuable possession.
OK, now I’ve slobbered all over my Tuba; I just wanted to say……everyone needs to think about themselves, to be the kind of person they would respect. Not think about yourselves selfishly by feeding off of and disrespecting others in the process.
Oh boy…….OK, I’m off the soap box, I’m red in the face, I’m going to go have a beer now.
OP is there ACTUALLY expired meat sitting in the fridges here? Because if so, you need to report that shit.
When people work overtime, are they getting paid? Most contracts you sign for jobs like this will state quite clearly (to anyone who reads them) that overtime in this industry is a pretty regular occurrence and what your rate will be.
Try being a programmer 😀 I’ve worked 24 hours straight and you know what i get for overtime? Over Time. I get vacation that i can use later.
Work sucks. It’s a side effect of not being on welfare.
crayons, as a programmer consider yourself lucky. You could work for EA. 😉
As for the OP, as every other poster already said, if there is expired meat in there, report it asap.
Crayons – love that last line, I want to use it all the time on everyone who complains about work
