The legal use of the term assault means to threaten to do someone physical harm. You don’t actually have to physically touch someone to assault them.

First of all. Sounds like this cop was on some sort of power trip. Best to get on with your life Guy. Sorry to hear this happened to you.Second, if someone threaten’s to do physical harm to you, unless you have a witness, it’s your word against his. If you’re thinking of taking this cop to court, or pressing charges, you’ll be waisting your time. My friend was physically threatened and the only thing that she could have “tried” to do is get a peace bond, even that was stretching it, because no one else heard it. If she had gone threw with it, the perp would then know where she lived and may not have been issued a bond in the end. She had to let it go. You say this was a cop? I wouldn’t bother.
