It was obvious as of early evening on March 16th that there would be no significant amount (if any amount of snow fall at all) overnight yet the parking ban was in effect. Why would a person even think to check if there is a ban when there is no snow falling in the evening? It was also obvious at 6am that not one single snowplow was out the night before because the streets were perfectly dry/void of any snow. I don’t mind paying a ticket when its obvious that I was at fault but when it really seems like a gauge it’s infuriating. This city needs to modernize its winter parking laws just like every other major city in Canada. There are more effective ways to manage parking for the residents of your city. If we are to live & work in this city it should be able to manage the daily needs of the people living in it. —Everyday I’m Hustlin’

  1. well duh, you have to have winter and snow, in order for it to be placed. i didn’t see much of either this year. and next, i gather, will be even warmer.

  2. Oh puh-leeze. We’ve been over this before. It’s not always about snow. Sometimes, they put it in effect when they think they may need to salt.

In case you haven’t noticed, Halifax is on the North Atlantic. It tends to get freezing rain, or rain that freezes overnight. Until Peter Coade develops psychic powers, there will be days when the forecsters don’t know if rain is going to happen, and if it does, whether it will stay liquid or get a bit more solid.

Being a city of less than 400,000, we also don’t quite have the fleet of tow trucks Montreal does. All things considered, I think this is a good balance–and I bet that ticket has made you a lot more likely to listen to the radio, hmm?

  3. wasn’t the new system to ‘check the website if you plan on parking on the street’?
oh, and you didn’t… and YOU feel it’s a gauge

“It was also obvious at 6am that not one single snowplow was out the night before because the streets were perfectly dry/void of any snow.”

“It was also obvious at 6am that not one single COOKIEMONSTER was out the night before because the CUPBOARDS were perfectly dry/void of any COOKIES.”
    ??????
    nope.

  4. I wasn’t aware they plowed the roads in HRM. On clear days I saw snowplows, on the very occasional snowy days I saw zip.
