Wouldn’t it be nice if you announced the names of the winners from your latest travel contest. That way at least we’ll know there are some.—B.L.

  1. yeah, sometimes inquiring minds want to know. and while we are on the subject of winners and shit. how come over 90% of the lotto winners are from either quebec, or ontario, i smell a fucking rat here.

  2. No point in posting names because most contests don’t have winners……the contest entries are used to gather “marketable” information. Even if they do post a winner, how hard is it for them to just make up a name like “Lawrence A. Matthews, Clam Harbour” and say that person won.

  3. I won some stuff the other day and my name showed up on the store’s website…so I know some of the contests have real winners. 🙂

  4. Speaking of lotto tickets, I don’t understand the people i see when i’m in line at the shop who spend a fortune on lotto tickets. As if it’s some sort of investment of hard-earned money (or welfare cheques, more likely) to gamble on something they have 1 chance in about 35,000 000 in winning. It’s pathetic! One lotto ticket every now and again I get, but $35 worth of 649 and $20 in scratch tickets when you can’t even put your toddler in a proper jacket that keeps him warm? GET A LIFE!

  5. If the excessive lottery players put all that money into the bank they’d have more money than the lottery is paying them. The odds of winning the jackpot are higher than getting struck by lighteneing in their lifetime. Lotteries are marketing a dream which only a very few will ever have come true. Lotteries, like everything else that tempts, are okay, in moderation.

Kudos to the Truro couple who posses the ability to look further beyond the end of their own noses!

  6. Well said Oceanbiker .
My problem withthe Loto’s is simply, if i’m buying a ticket(s) for tonights prize of a quadzillion dollars…& no one wins…then in effect i didn’t have a chance.
IMO if a prize is posted to be won.
Somone should be fucking winning it.
If no one wins, they have this marvelous bullshit excuse of …it goes to next weeks draw.
    Fuck that !
I bought my ticket for this weeks draw & like every other lottery that the Government makes people like the Childrens Hospital have a permit for…they have to give away the prises.
They can’t say “Oh , no winner this New Home lottery ” we’ll do 2 homes next year.

If the rules for anyone like churches, Hospitals, non profit organizations say, you sell tickets for a prize(s) you must give the prize away. Then those exact same rules should be in effect for any government loto. I for one am tired of being ripped off tax wise by the cretins in office in this country…I sure as hell am not going to spend any of my money on those rip off ticket s any more… ever since the 649 went from a dollar to 2 I haven’t played.
When Super 7 went from 2 to 5 I quit that as well. I save enough money each year to send myself to the Caribbean for a week , & for me that’s the same as winning a prise.

  7. You’d think I’d never learned to spell ‘lightning’! Sheeeeesh!

PS ‘Oceanbiker’, I like that…a combo of two of my favourite things in life:)

  8. The lottery is a tax on people who don’t understand odds.

as for contest winners, if its ” no purchase required to enter” you didn’t lose any money so who cares. If you purchased a tickets it should have a lottery license number on it where you can verify a winner was selected and that it was a legit contest.

Sometimes names are withheld by request of the winner, but since most fine print on lottery tickets say that as part of claiming your prize they ( prize provider ) get to use your name for promotional value i don’t think they are actually obligated to honour that request, but might do so voluntarily.

  9. I don’t believe in people spending a fortune on lotto tickets either. But if it brings them a glimps of hope in having a better life then so be it. Just have your priorities strait.

Also, have you ever thought that the larger amount of winnings of people who live in Ontario and Quebec are due to the fact they are the largest provinces in the country? I come from a very small town in Cape Breton and the surrounding area from which I am from there have been at least 3 large sum winnings within the last 10 years and I’m talking about a very small population. If you go to the lotto website they have pictures and names of the winners. But as for smaller contests they may not want to give out the information due to privacy reasons. Not everything is a conspiracy!

  10. sunsine?, yeah they have a lot of people sure, but 5 years ago, n.s. was named the top gambler in canada, also the most booze is drank here, and the first place goes n.s. for illegal smokes as of late.why you ask, that’s because we as a province smoke more, i would guess, and want cheaper ciggys.
