Every day when I walk through the cafeteria or into a classroom or into a store I think to myself, how many people in the world have done what I just did. People don’t seem to realize just HOW many people there are in the world. Think about the separation of six degrees. It is said, that you can be connected to anyone else in the world through six people. For example, you know someone, who knows someone, who knows some one, who knows someone, who knows Obama. All of those someones, have parents and siblings and cousins and friends, who all have the same and so on. When you really stop to think about it is ASTONISHING our earth has been able to supply us with enough room/resources to last us this long. What people don’t seem to understand is that though they are only one small person in this astronomical system each and every person plays a part in the well being and function of that system. Global warming, over population, extinction of fossil fuels and economic degradation is all due to each and every person just not taking the extra time to care. Though you may be throwing a piece of gum on the ground, that piece of litter is not the problem, it is the mind set of thinking the world is our garbage bin. As this mentality grows environmental concern diminishes and we are left hoping the earth can hold out so we don’t have to see the consequences of our lifestyle. —SC

  1. thinking that kind of shit usually gives me a headache o.p., that’s why i don’t think of crap like that.
here’s a thought for you, if you are connected to said 6 people, how many of them are really connected to you. in terms of bodily, mentally, and just passing thru the motions of even being alive. or really, in true sense, who gives a fuck if they are indeed connected to you or me, and are just being a big fucking pain in the ass.

  2. Don’t forget about the perma-pregnant welfare parents who think popping out kids will make them rich. If you can’t afford them, don’t have them in the first place. Or the people in third world nations that can’t keep their legs together.

  3. Somehow I don’t think the subsistence farmers in Central and South America or the refugees waiting for UN food rations are to blame for the demise of the planet.

Might I suggest turning your sight on the real source of the problem? Let’s look at gluttony, excess, and waste in our own backyard before pinning the world’s undoing on the 4-5 billion who had nothing to do with the problem.

  4. I’m on the side of OP, it’s not the little actions but the accumulated actions of a careless mind that leads to cities worth complaining about, wars worth questioning, and marketing campaigns trying to sell us shit we don’t need and often already have.

General awareness and respect goes a long way in a shared space of 6 or 7 billion.

  5. Hehe, I wonder what our ‘moai’ will be when we’re done eating each other? Our skyscrapers I guess? THEY NEED TO KNOW WE WERE HERE.

  6. I see my role as being onside with helping global warming. I believe tires should be burned…especially in the winter & if you can make use of several dozen christmas trees…even better.
I remember living near Maynards lake, we would wait for the cities call to put our old christmas trees out for pick up. There were about 20 of us that went to the Jr high school, & we’d haul every tree we could down to Maynards Lake ,make a huge pile of trees & toss on the tires we could get from the 3 gas staions that used to be around there at that time.
What great ‘bonfire skating’ parties that would make ….people from all around would come out & skate.
Global warming…I am trying my best still, but if you look outside today…. Its proof we’ve got a long way to go.
But I’m not discouraged, I’ll keep trying !

  7. Meat Cove has a beach FULL of inukshuks. It was easily the most interesting thing to see in Meat Cove. I strongly recommend it. Just make sure you have a strong tent, or you’re going for a swim – holy wind storms!
