I’m not celebrating International Women’s Day, simply because in an equitable society, we should not need a day to call our own. By talking about women as less than equal, we are in some ways, treating ourselves as less than equal and therefore reinforcing the societal view that women are less than equal through the discourse itself.
A lot of the language used in the posts just reinforces hegemonic masculinity: “RAH RAH OPPRESSED WOMEN”…”STILL STRUGGLING TO HAVE MY VOICE HEARD IN A MAN’S WORLD”.
Furthermore, what about people whose gender identity does not fall into one of the two socially ascribed categories?
International Gender Equality Day. This would make a lot more sense. —Not feminist/Not anti-feminist
