I got my truck driver’s license last year and still can not get work.
I have resumes in 6 different provinces and still do not hear back from anybody.
Why did I spend 5 grand for a trade nobody will let me use?
This money could have been better spent on fixing my house or lump sum on my mortgage.
Let this be a lesson to people wanting to go back to school.
Keep your money and enjoy it —Sorry I went back to school

I find it hard to believe that you can’t find work in that field. Did you try the big transport companies like Midland, Armour, Day and Ross? Maybe your salary expectations are too high, I don’t know. I’m not blaming you OP but I find that quite surprising.
I’m not sorry i went back to school op. I guess the regret is not a sign of the times and more a case by case basis..
Oh please! There are at least 5 companies I can name off the top of my head that are always hiring. You just want a mon-fri, 9-5 job, which will be IMPOSSIBLE to get. Welcome to the bottom of the pile, my friend. If you’re a pilot, you get paid well and are well respected. If you’re a ships captain, you’re paid well and well respected. If you’re a train “engineer”, you’re paid well and well respected. If you’re a truck driver, you get paid far less than you’re worth and you’re a low life redneck.
Imagine people’s surprise when they learn that the guy/girl that pulls up next to them in traffic in a tractor trailer (that person being responsible for the lives of everyone around them, your precious children included) may be making as little as 12/hour.
My suggestion to you, buddy, is to try and break into something specialized. Try getting into construction related jobs. Start with dump trucks and work your way up from there. It’s long shitty hours in the heat and dust, but you will get paid a lot more, trust me, I know. Or, you could always be a union slug of a bus driver, like “Wheels”.
OB, you may want to read the article in todays Herald 6/28/13, in the business section regarding trucking, sounds like they will be hiring quite a number.
op there have been a few suggestions – have you been REALLY looking? I mean REALLY? People who aren’t even looking found some things you could look into. And i reiterate.. they’re not even looking.
You do understand too, when you graduate you start at the bottom. Just making sure you’re not looking for someone to hire you into a specialized role or management role right away.
I’m dittoing other commenters on taking a look into how/where you’re searching. My aunt finished her training this spring and was hired on not even three months afterward.
There are a TON of jobs in the trucking industry. They’re crying for new employees all the time. Maybe your resume is shit and riddled with spelling mistakes? There has to be some problem with your application.
Christ, Ivan, you’re going to convince sebastian and Meaty to go to truck-driving school with that link.
Not to worry, Biscuit, Sheriff Lobo will keep them in line.

Do they still train at Dachau, erm Debert? I took the driving course there, the accommodations made a pigsty look 5 star.
didn’t have a problem getting a driving job.
Try Conrads, they’re always looking for long haul drivers.
I heard the Mohawks took over the truck driver school racket in Debert.
Want a job driving a tractor trailer, tomorrow?
Let me know.
Who is tomorrow?
The ROP have truck driving vacancies, sadly, it’s short term and the contract is explosive.
Read this carefully because I’m going to play with words a little: Employers don’t want drivers with truck driver licenses, they want the services that drivers with a truck driver license can provide.
What am I getting at? Congratulations, you have your truck drivers license, now it is time to accept crappy jobs and establish a history of providing the kind of services that employers want.
For example: being the guy that answers his phone at 2am in the morning can keep you driving for a very long time. being the guy that loads and unloads his own cargo with no breakage. being the guy that spent 6 months on long hauls all over a specific parts of the country, etc.
Actually Biscuit. Who’s on first, the pitcher’s Tomorrow.
Silly wabbit trix are for kids.
Nothing back from the OB, guess I don’t get the recruitment fee 🙁
The key thing to when applying for jobs is to CALL back the employer. This gets you noticed.
