Can someone please explain to me, why I’m paying just as much for power even though I have above ground lines, and get power outages all the time, but yet all those ppl with new homes have below ground wiring, and get fewer outages by far… why am I paying as much as them for power? I know we all pay for what we use, but that’s a moot point really… it’s about the customer satisfaction, and service isn’t it? If I bought a car that was garbage or a lemon I’d bring it back wouldn’t I? And get a new one right, since I paid the same for it and deserve just as much quality as the other guy. Total monopolization in this province, I don’t get it. It’s so obvious that ppl r being ripped off, but yet everyone in this province just lets it keep happening, and they all cry over it, then do nothin bout it, only to cry over it again and again. Why should I pay as much for power as the guy with underground lines, when I’m getting 3-4 times more outages? This makes no sense to me, other than to suck the money outta the poorer consumer… discrimination if u ask me, lol… so obvious… sad really… just another reason why so many ppl leave this province to go elsewhere to live, and they wonder why. Just another reason to put in my book to leave next year, lol, on top of all the other retardedness that goes on here. And they wonder why this province doesnt attract too many ppl from other places, lol you just answered your own question Nova Scotia, lol… maybe if this province wasn’t so retarded in its thinking, then maybe it wouldn’t be so damn backwards compared to everywhere else… oh but I forgot… Nova Scotia is special… god whatever you don’t tell anyone you’re from somewhere else, lol… all they do is tell you to go back there if you like it so much. You’re only paying for power that you use. During outages you’re not using any power, therefore you’re not paying for any power. NSP is actually saving you money, it’s part of their reducing dependence on electricity model!!!
But this is Nova Scotia where electricity isn’t considered an essential service. So therefore any complaint anyone has about NSP will never be treated with the seriousness the situation dictates.
Lobby your MLA to treat NSP like any other essential utility would be treated, to ensure they don’t have it both ways… Otherwise we will all continue to get it up the ass from the coercive monopoly crew.
I know where you’re coming from regarding NSP, OP. Privatizing a utility where there is zero competition was a dumb move IMO. I was quite shocked when I received my first bill here, with a per kwh rate about twice as high as back home (yay hydroelectricity) and more frequent (and generally longer) outages too. Bad value overall compared to other places in Canada? I think I agree with you on this.
However, I believe the “complain all the time but never take action” thing is more of a global phenomenon than a provincial one…

We live on an island in the Atlantic, Heavy weather occurs. Sometimes power goes out. It is really amazing that you feel that electricity should be provided to you without fail.
Perhaps if you are so envious of these underground wire neighbourhoods, you should move to one.

And no we pay for way more than our own power, we pay for nsp’s profits on the fuel they buy and operating costs. They provide power to a large portion of NS with power at a discount or free, sometimes this is in tax incentives, sometimes in future “positions of power”. For example, if a warehouse runs lights using say 2MW per hr in lights and other equipment, which is not alot of power compared to a large factory. They run most of their eqpt on 600 or 400 watt, which means they use less eqpt from the power company to step down the voltage like they must for a residence, this power at 400-600 costs less to supply they say, so they pay much less.
This does not include the places who get the other “incentives” its just another way we pay, the fact is, if you look at usage of actual power, residential and tax payer incentives pay thelargest portion of all power used, yet we use much less than the ratio we pay for.
There are many many offices ,gov and corporate office buildings who do not pay for power, its included in their rent, because we pay for it actually. If you ppl knew the truth of what you pay for every day, why you pay, and how much of that money goes to make other ppls lives worse in order for your masters to live like kings. You would be more willing to listen.

My neighbor has recently gone off the grid.
He started with a windmill then added a couple of solar panels.
Then another small windmill & then covered his garage roof in panels.
He has had the connection to the grid severed & now he is now NSP free !
I’ve been thinking about it, but after yesterdays newspaper article about us getting not only another increase, but a fuel increase on top of that while the guaranteed profits to those thieves continues….It now top priority.
