So the NDP defeated the PC government because the PCs wanted to change the law so their budget could be passed (use money slated to pay the debt to pay for programs) and the NDP (with the Liberals) got up in arms and defeated the government. We then have an election and the NDP form a majority government. Okay, I can sort of live with that (the people have spoken). Now what’s the first piece of legislation do they put through? That’s right, the same legislation they defeated the former government on. So what’s the difference?

  1. It’s shite. At least this will give the conservatives and the liberals ammunition for years to attack the N-Dippers.

  2. Shhhh…. you’re not allowed to criticize the NDP in this province now. They just haven’t been able to get their magic wand working so far. You know, the one that will wipe out the provincial debt, eliminate deficits, and get the benevolent government give every family everything they could ever have wanted.

  3. I haven’t been watching the news lately, so I can only imagine that the pundits are FREAKING out at the hypocrisy…

  4. Another reason that the provinces finances should be disclosed to all PRIOR to the election. If the Tories were doing as good as they said they were, they would’ve had nothing to worry about. That 800+ mil that they got a couple years back didn’t go where it was intended apparently. The NDP has 4 years to let us forget, we’ll see if they can make progress in that time.

  5. I find it ironic that the cons and libs are criticising the ndp for this issue. The ndp have never been in power before, so between the libs and cons we are $13 billion in the toilet – mostly thanks to Buchanan sending truckloads of $$ to Sydney to keep non productive mines open and a steel works to keep producing a redundant product.
The ndp were voted in with a majority, so we’ll just have to suck it up for 4 years.
I’m not a member of the ndp – btw

  6. I always liked what Charles Dickens said about the N.S. Legislature back in the days of Joe Howe – the more things change, the more they stay the fucking same:

“It happened to be the opening of the Legislative Council and General Assembly, at which ceremonial the forms observed on the commencement of a new Session of Parliament in England were so closely copied, and so gravely presented on a small scale, that it was like looking at Westminster through the wrong end of a telescope. The governor, as her Majesty’s representative, delivered what may be called the Speech from the Throne. He said what he had to say manfully and well. The military band outside the building struck up “God save the Queen” with great vigour before his Excellency had quite finished; the people shouted; the in’s rubbed their hands; the out’s shook their heads; the Government party said there never was such a good speech; the Opposition declared there never was such a bad one; the Speaker and members of the House of Assembly withdrew from the bar to say a great deal among themselves and do a little: and, in short, everything went on, and promised to go on, just as it does at home upon the like occasions.”

  7. To those of you who actually buy the whole fucking “We had no idea what shape the province’s books were in” that the NDP is selling you..please email me immediately! I have some land for sale. A bit swampy but you will really like it. Honest. Give me a break people. BULLET have you been asleep for the past 50 years?!?! EVERY party that ever gets into power uses that fucking excuse. Yet naive people like you actually suck it up! Un fucking real! When the NDP were making these ridiculous fucking promises to get your vote (where do I start? Balancing the books in a recession? Opening every ER in the province without raising your taxes..etc etc) they knew very well that they could haul out the tried and true “Cons left the finances in a mess” routine. In fact. it was the day after Dexter got elected that he hauled that out. Inspite of the fact that MacNeil told him in the debates taht he was fucking crazy to promise balanced books when he had not even seen them! But hey, I guess if you belong to a union you should be happy.

  8. Sorta like when Joe Clark said he had to raise the gasoline tax and Trudeau was aghast and said how wrong it was. An election was held, Trudeau got in and raised the gasoline tax.
