It fucking amazes me that bus drivers take breaks and put up the electronic signage at the front of the bus stating “OUT OF SERVICE” — and often shuts off the bus lights totally and sits back and snore — when the next BUS STOP, clearly in view of the fucking bus driver, has little old ladies waiting in slapping rain, the blaring sun, or freezing cold. I don’t know how these lazy morons can sleep at night. If they were working in an animal shelter they would be charged with abuse and/or neglect. —MonthlyPassBusRider

I’ll defend the bus drivers with this theory:
I believe there are designated stops on a route that are used for ‘time catch ups’ that can be used as a break as they wait to catch up with the schedule. They don’t choose which ones they are, even if the next stop has ‘woefully unprepared for the environment’ people waiting for the bus.
as i recall, the buses in other cities will let you on when they are sitting idle

People get complacent at their jobs. In my industry that can and has resulted in accidents happenning. Breaks are important; I do see the relevancy of complaining that some bus drivers just don’t care and won’t even take a break where people are waiting IF the bus driver is in a position to know that they are there.
What part of “Out of Service” do you not understand?
man, their offices are on wheels and everyone is entitled to a break.
I’m saddened to see/hear Metro Transit being bullied 🙁
The NDP should make laws that prevent the bullying of public transit systems.
Biscuit – speaking of the NDP and bullies – does the name Percy Punch-up Paris ring any bells?
I hear Percy’s been tapped for the remake of:

I won’t see that we DON’T need more fisticuffs at Province House, but I have no respect fora man who thinks he needs to be pauladeened for every time someone called him “boss”.
Scooter is right.
Also op, they usually do TWELVE HOUR SHIFTS. Are you saying that they don’t deserve a break? Or DO deserve a break provided they drive x kms out of their way, thereby shortening the length of their break?
Do you really want an exhausted driver piloting you around? Do you think that’s a better solution?
How would you react if you were told that there are customers/clients to deal with so fuck your break?
They’re human beings and the law says you can’t work a 12 hour shift without at least two breaks.
It’s like pilots. There have been planes delayed or cancelled because the pilot was exhausted. And quite frankly, i’m glad that plane didn’t take off with me on it, regardless of the annoyance of having a flight cancelled.
Punch Up rocks the bells like LL Cool J.
Bus drivers are people too. Let them have a fucking break in peace.
you are so rude.. why doesn’t a bus driver deserve a break? Plus there are spots they are not supposed to stop at and ones they are allowed to stop at.. There are certain stops that are for catching up time if they are ahead of schedule.. If they choose to rest their eyes for a few minutes on break or step outside for a smoke.. its none of your business!
If they were working at an animal shelter they would also have breaks.. and letting an animal wait out in the rain or cold wouldn’t get them selves charged with neglect.
It’s annoying but they do have those designated spots.
I feel your pain… there’s one of these 2 stops before mine that I have to endure regularly.
Yet another ‘feature’ of our bus culture.

They drive a bus which means it’s hard to take a break without being in plain sight of everybody which means wherever they stop and snooze, it will piss off people at the next busstop.
