  1. “only bar worth playing ” – So, where would that be?

You learn something new every day, I always thought that it was the bar that booked the band, not the band that booked the bar.

Is there any sort of contract? Is another band trying to book the same night(s)? Is the date really soon?

    Some details would be nice.

  2. OP, who cares. You made the band pay upfront to book the venue I hope. Maybe they won’t even show.

  3. WTF does this even mean? Did you play a gig and not get payed? Are you looking to book yourself as talent at a certain bar? Are you a club owner who booked no show talent? Is this Logi? Did someone find out your not a musician and now won’t return your calls?

  4. Sounds like “you” is a manager or owner or some sort of agent that has exclusive rights to determine who is booked.

  5. Sounds like it’s a member of a band doing their own booking.

My dad used to be an agent and would usually have no problems booking his clients. He books his own bands now and has never had an issue, especially with being invited back.

If you’re an agent, OP, you need to learn the ropes a bit more. If you’re an act, you need an experienced agent who knows how to work with people like this.

  6. how can you be booking things and not even have a cell phone?
it doesn’t have to be the latest gingerbread running tech…
just a shitty, pay as you go piece of crap will due to let people know you’re actually serious.

  7. He is not an agent. He sounds like a band member filled with self entitlement. Probably a drummer or a singer. Their egos are always blown out of prop.

  8. I’m pretty sure this is in reference to a certain bar on the corner of north and agricola. Most shows are booked directly by the bands themselves. The musician who books for them used to live here for a time, but lives in Ontario and tours constantly.

So, sometimes the turnaround time in answering show inquiries is a bit much. Plus this particular place fills up its dates pretty damn quick and months in advance.

I’m pretty sure I know the ob and we’ve discussed this before. I’m sure it’s nothing personal. It’s a combination of the factors of I mentioned above, which do give a bit of credence to his comments. But there’s also this:

You guys are a new band, you’ve played a handful of shows, and most of you have only lived here and been part of the scene for a short time. It’s only after 3 years of being a band are we able to book a friday night show there. The best nights are going to be given to bands/lineups that can draw.

Try for off-nights, really hustle to get people out and prove that you can get bodies in the door. You’ll probably see you get a bit of preference for weekend nights.
