Just sitting here reading about the lack of participation in the recent Nova Scotia provincial election and how it seems to be a mystery to most people. Why aren’t people coming out to vote? I think the message is clear. We don’t trust any of the leaders or parties and we don’t care enough to waste our time voting when we’re going to be subject to the same shit and broken campaign promises, also known as lies, no matter who gets in. Sound about right? —One of the 53 percent

Yep, sounds about right to me. I voted, but really just out of a sense of obligation. Even though the party I voted for won, it still feels futile.
Pretty sad when you can’t take 5 minutes out of your day to go mark an X. Regardless of the inept and tired parties, least you can make a small contribution to your future. Indifference and ignorance is how dictatorships are started.
Imagine if that 53% HAD voted? We may a completely different party running the province. heck those 53% could have easily voted in the green party, but noooo, they’d rather sit back and whine about how their vote doesn’t matter and how the same old parties get in every time. My own riding came down to 100 votes. Each and every vote mattered in that case, so explain how yours didn’t.
I know it’s clichd, but if you don’t participate you really don’t have much room to complain. Like these Americans who in one breath complain about how bad they think Trump is and in the next say they didn’t bother to even vote against him.
By not voting you’re actually reinforcing the status quo. There were five parties running and not all have had a chance to hold power and enact their ideas. You and others could have helped change things but you stayed home and ensured we got stuck with the same corrupt government for another term. Otherwise you could run yourself and make change that way. You are part of the problem.
I didn’t vote… but only because the election was called and ended all within a month, meanwhile I was traveling and had no way of getting a mail-in ballot on time.
