Ok, so I used to sing in a choir at university, and we were awesome! We sang Beatles tunes, Coldplay tunes, Rolling Stones, Aretha Franklin and on and on, and it was damn fantastic. We were huge and all I want to do is find a choir in Halifax that’s not a boy’s acapella group or a church choir for fuck sakes. I’ve looked everywhere online and there’s nothing. Even the local university choir is all classical stuff. Don’t get me wrong, that shit is beautiful and all, but I need me some Pop/Rock/Folk/Blues choirs to join and shake my booty to, and I wants it now. Seriously… I just wanna dance! And sing! —Sad Sally

  1. if you were that good, then how come, no one has ever heard of you? do yourself a favor, don’t break arm, while patting self on back.
just go the fuck away, and leave the little dopers do what they do now.

  2. I went to a show called the Soda shop Gang at the Rebecca Cohen – actually I’ve gone 5 years in a row. They are a none profit singing group that raises money for local charities – a lot of money. They only put on a few concerts a year and practice a few months out of the year – but they sing what you’re looking for. Try google and see if you can find them. Best of luck OP!

  3. In elementary school our music class performed ‘Aquarius’ and ‘Sounds Of Silence’ in the school concert. I still remember all the lyrics 40 years later.

Have you ever thought of starting a contemporary choir of your own OP? Some great things have come about because someone saw a need and filled it.

  4. Sally, just becase they’re not doing ‘your music’, it’s not a reason not to join. I’d think that any group would be happy to get fresh blood, and you could always make a suggestion for new songs.

  5. I have a 45 of this song on vinyl, Kim_NS! But we didn’t learn this one in school. It’s a good song though. I’ve always liked it.

I would be interesting in joining the group if you started one too, OP, thus lacking the time to actually start one myself.

  6. This is all we need, more people butchering the classics, i’m all for good covers of songs if they do something different or improve on the original (like all along the watchtower) but i’m sick of hearing people singing the same ol song and getting cash for it, actually while i’m on it i’m sick of hearing 10 year olds doing it on youtube then getting record deals for it, shame on the adults exploiting them too. Where have all the good times gone?
    – before someone mentions it i’m fully aware the Beatles got famous doing the same thing, but at least they could make their own god damn awesome music.

  7. I was in choir all through school, I would totally JOIN a fun, contemporary choir! Lets make this happen.

The fun in choir is the blend of many voices, so karaoke just doesnt cut it.

  8. First of all, some of the church choirs are actually good. just cause they churches dont mean theyre not good, or that all they sing is classical. And second of all, can you actually sing, cause the North End Choir is AMAZING!! Maybe you should try to see about them. Also, do you have a car? Because if you do, I think there are a lot of choirs that meet just outside the city. Look on community centre pages and stuff. And dont be afraid of a church choir, it might have more to it than you think.
