I’d love to know why HRM has been hiring local bands to play at big events such as Canada Day? We can see these bands almost any weekend we want to by going down town. This is supposed to be a once a year celebration. They have an entire year to plan for it and yet they hire local bands. With all the tax dollars going into it you’d think they’d hire a big name to play. Such as Collin James, April Wine, Trooper. See I kept it Canadian. Who want to stand outside in hot humid weather to hear bands we never hear of before or bands we’re tired of seeing? Not me.—Egar for entertainment

I’d take local over Trooper any day.
Welcome to the free entertainment of a “Have not” province. You should actually be quite happy that they believe in promoting local bands. I would support more events that feature local talent on a stage larger than a bar.
Cause local bands are still Canadian and are probably cheaper and easier to book?
should that be ‘IGOR’ for entertainment? is this some kind of groundswell movement?
I suppose if ‘they’ hired out of town bands you’d bitch about ‘them’ not hiring local. sheesh.
eh.. canada day this year was overall a bit of a bust, don’t you think?
The band should probably be canadian though. Because, y’know, nationalism. 😉
It’s too bad Harper made it through another Canada day without being Harpooned in his big, fat, head.
^^^ 1000 ‘likes’ on that one…..I actually hate that creep. deeply and personally.

I think the antics of former Mayor Kelly have made the folks responsible for band booking a bit nervous in case they’re accused of skimming.
It’s the same at our Casino, we get absolute dogshit.
‘I’d take local over Trooper any day.’ – bawhawhawhaw – me, too – in fact, I’d take a feral cat playing a triangle over Trooper any day.
Well, T.T., I know several local bands that happen to fit that description rather perfectly. Say the word and I’ll hook you up 😉
Fucking leotards I graduated high school with picked a trooper song for our grad song.

Don’t be dissing Trooper. I’ve actually sung with Ra McGuire.
hey tim, do you know his brother gary in bc? I used to work with him.
“Collin James, April Wine, Trooper.” Who? 0_o
I, for one, think it’s great that they hire (and pay) local bands instead of dishing out hundreds of thousands of dollars to get a big name band.
If they did that, people would be complaining about the ridiculous cost. Can’t win sometimes 😉
It is free afterall so take it for what it is.
Good old General Hand Grenade. A classic.
….here for a good time not a long time…..so ahve a good time the sun cant shine everyday………..
My son used to play in Trooper and what a teribel group they were.
Canada Day is a boring holiday. Why would Rush or The Who or TBTBT play a free HRM show when they can do a private concert for ol’ Biscuit’s birthday instead?
Biscuit spent Canada Day in Calgary, where he bought a white stetson and pretended to be Mayor Nenshi, visiting flood ravaged neighborhoods and telling the yokels to “harden the fuck up”
LOL
Some son of a bitch (no pun intended) told me to say hello to Willie Horton for them, and that he was teaching at my kids’ kindergarten!
Tomorrow chirren we read “Horton Beats a Ho”
I guess hollywood decided we needed more criminals yelling about their lady friends’…. baby places..
