So we moved from one HRM location to another in April. We did our tax returns that same month indicating our new address and checked YES we are Canadian citizens and YES we authorize the CRA to provide our information to Elections Canada. The returns were sent and fully processed before the 30-Apr deadline. Yet… there’s no voter registration card in the mail for us. Is this not a digital age or what? How hard is it for Elections Canada to refresh their voter registration data from current tax data BEFORE printing the dam cards? Grrrr

meh..their system is fucked…I’ve gotten a card every other time…but not for this particular election, my old roomate who moved out in Dec got hers here…she filed her return at her new addy..and i’ve been here for almost 2 years.
Just bring a piece of photo ID and a couple of pieces of mail, and bang, you’re registered. Simple solution.
yeah me too….i don’t have one either,grrr. i moved 6 months ago.
I didn’t get one and I have no idea where I’m supposed to go vote. And they wonder why people don’t care, among other reasons.
Every household gets one either addressed to the last occupant or “Occupant”. Take that card to the polling station indicated on the card with ID and problem solved.
One other thing that’s for Elections Canada re:your tax return. I’m not sure if it trickles down to the province or municipality but I’m sure Tim will let us know in the morning.
Bro Tim – I’ve been moved for a year and we did not receive voter registration cards for occupant or anyone else. It was easily remedied, however, by calling Election NS’s toll-free number who forwarded me to the local returning office. It’s not a complicated process, but people are too lazy about voting. One phone call and two minutes of my time and we’re all fixed up…not very hard considering the amount of time most people spend blathering on the phone each day.
Three, I totally agree, people are too damn lazy when it comes to elections and then have the gall to complain when it’s over.
If you don’t vote, you don’t have the right to complain afterwards. If you’re too lazy to involve yourself in the democratic process, then you have no right to complain about the outcome.
Maybe Elections Canada should hire a White Pages executive or just a single IT professional to get it right… real complicated stuff in a digital world, I’m sure. pffft
BTW.. no one is complaining about the outcome of a not-yet-done election. The OP doesn’t say they’re not voting over it. Just annoyed. I would be too.
My post was a response to Bro Tim, not to the OPs original bitch.
I was responding to dgaf.
moved to the neighbourhood two years ago, voted in Federal election…. they said I would be on “the list” the next time… didn’t get a card… got up early this morning and went to vote at the same location as last time… BUT – it wasn’t the right spot – I don’t even know where to go now!!!
Call any one of the candidate’s offices in your district. They’ll be happy to tell you where you can vote and will also drive you there.
Yeah they really do make it easy to vote if you aren’t lazy. If you aren’t smart enough to find out the information you need to go vote, I don’t know if I want you voting anyway.

I did figure it out for myself, thank you very much… now I’m heading out to vote AGAIN… at least I’m getting lots of exercise
dgaf – yeah, it’s a real pain having to spend a few minutes to ascertain where to vote. You have a computer – use it. After you give your head a shake and the brain gets up to speed. It pains me to think so many stupid people get to vote. I guess that’s the price of democracy. I have a brother who thinks university graduates like him should have 2 votes – allegedly because they are smarter !!
Just a question: does elections canada feed into elections NS? If not that’s where the disconnect could be?
BTW: I didn’t get my card either, so I just brought photo ID and a phone bill with me because the address on my ID is different than my current address. Worked in the last fed election.
Kitty: The databases should tie together, theoretically. I don’t know entirely since I don’t work for either gov. That said, the formulas for federal transfer money, census records, GST refunds, and the like must have some sort of conjoined methodology at their core otherwise how would they establish baseline amounts, etc? The head of Elections NS meets with her provincial and federal counterparts so they are aware of what each is doing in a certain respect.
I got my voter registration card with all the correct information on it and when I went to vote they couldn’t find me on their list! WTF?! I had to register to vote again!
