Back where I came from, you could see a psychotherapist under the government health program (i.e. OHIP in Ontario) just like you would if you caught the flu, broke your arm or had an infection. They were called GP Psychotherapists. Since moving to NOva Scotia, I really need professional help in dealing with the bullshit that this province deals out on a daily basis – issues around personalities in the work place, dealing with the stress of terrible incomes etc. I can’t afford a psychologist at my salary, my benefits plan covers enough for maybe one and a half visits and now I did a search for GP Psychotherapists in Nova Scotia and the result is Nil… no wonder everyone here is so fucked up – you cant even get help if you ask for it. My issues are minor and I still need help – I can’t imagine those poor people here who have serious mental problems. —Grass is always greener in Ontario

Soooooooo Go back to Ontario…
yessss thats why everyone is fucked up… Finally you figured it out.
You don’t have to worry about people with serious mental issues, most of them are in prison.
Yes, we like it like this. Go back.

OP. If you had done your homework, you would have weighed the pros and cons of living here. Were you forced out of Ontario?
Hey Ontario! You can have this one back.
Thank You. From one Non-Fucked Up Nova Scotian!
we throw the little ‘uns back out hyah, swim back when you grow up.
but seriously, those minor issues are what bartenders and singing last of the barretts privateers are for.
I have had my problems in the past as well, I asked my DR if there was anyone I could speak to and she sent a referral and after waiting on a waiting list for a few months I got an appointment to speak to someone, was diagnosed, completed two different therapy programs with my new DR. I didn’t pay a penny, I do not have a medical plan that covers that and I was never asked about my medical plan.. Maybe you need to get a family DR and go through them to be refereed.
Yep, that’s what you do. Referral from doc, and there’s like 6 locations around metro(don’t use the DT Dartmouth one, they never call back). I didn’t wait a month tho, took a week after I called.
Go to the nut house…it’s all free there. But if you’re not crazy when you go in; you’ll be crazy when you get out.
Bye!
It is called life! Learn to handle it and get over it and move on. Yes, this is reality.
Personalities in the workplace? Oh dear! Not everyone in life can agree.
Terrible income? Oh my, you accepted a position and relocated from the Centre of the Universe without knowing the salary?
Go the fuck back!
Trying to get a paid service for free? Sounds like you fit in to Nova Scotia more than you realize! LOL…I will click to get the ‘dislike’ counter rolling.
If you’d like to discuss your problems online, I would like to recommend montrealman.
He’s cheap and always offers well educated advice. He can be greasy though, real fuckin’ greasy.
there are free mental health services at cobequid. you can also see a social worker free. there’s also a place downtown that offers free counselling if you’re willing to be recorded for teaching purposes. talk to your gp or go to emerg and ask for a consult/referral. I’ve used all the services mentioned above in addition to addictions counselling, which is also free.
OP, your GP should be able to refer you to Community Mental Health Services (the wait time is horrendous but it’s worth asking), there’s also the Mental Health Mobile Crisis Team http://www.cdha.nshealth.ca/mental-health-…
A case of Keiths cost $42, that’s all the therapy I need
there is a big difference between ohip and msi. i tried to get a referral through my GP to see someone at the capital health mental health, i saw a nurse who said that she didn’t think i needed to speak to someone one on one, and that the resources in NS don’t allow for everyone to see someone on a one on one basis. mental health in ns is severely lacking.
I love it when people use the word “free” when it comes to anything healthcare. That’s the biggest misnomer out there, nothing in this field is “free” unless you’re on the welfare.
Gots to love the Locals telling the “CFAs” to “go back to Ontario”. The Local want to suffer in peace, like the true masochist he/she is.
Yea, go back to Ontario. We don’t like anyone coming here and trying to change things. We’re doing perfectly fine the way we are – and we are obviously doing so well at it too. Shame on you for even thinking that things could be done better. Slutshame! CFAShame! Same difference.
I’ll take psycho the rapist for 20.
trust me… there will never be enough for the populace in this hell hole.
Some herbs will help wash down the Keiths lol
Switch to Corona and a lemon slice that vitamin C may help.
A CONFUSION OF TERMINOLOGY?
“I can’t afford a psychologist at my salary, my benefits plan covers only enough for maybe one and a half visits and I did a search for GP Psychotherapists in Nova Scotia and the result is Nil.” Grass is always greener in Ontario
: “psychologist, n. one who studies the science of nature, functions and phenomena of the human soul or mind.”
: “psychotherapist, n. one who treats mental disease by hypnotic influence.” (The Concise Oxford Dictionary)
What is the difference between a psychologist, the one who studies the nature, functions and phenomena of the human soul or mind and the psychotherapist, the one who attempts to treat mental disease by hypnotic influence?
While psychoanalysis divides the mind into conscious and unconscious elements as in the case of Freud, Jung and Adler, are the psychologist and psychotherapist to be understood as distinct subsets of the Freudian/Jungian/Adlerian psychoanalytical project or are do they have common ground? For example, is it possible for the psychologist to be a Freudian but not the psychotherapist? In the same way, can the psychotherapist be a Jungian but not the psychologist? Can both, or neither, be Adlerian?
What about the psychopathologist, the one who mental disease? Can he be lumped into the psychologist’s camp or, alternatively, that of the psychotherapist? And what about the psychophysician, the one who deals with the general relations between kind and body? Could the psychologist and the psychotherapist be considered psychophysicians or do neither qualify? And of course, there is the psychophysiologist, the one who engages in that branch of physiology concerned with mental phenomena. What about him?
When you did your search for GP Psychotherapists in NOva Scotia and the result was Nil, did you explore these alternatives? Is the over-lap purely terminological or are there substantive distinctions to be made? Maybe the GP Psychotherapists of Ontario have a different name in NOva Scotia. Perhaps you should check it out, but maybe it might drive you crazy (or crazier).
A pleasure as always.
Cheerio!
“You know, there are some things about Nova Scotia that maybe could use some improvement”
“You don’t like it, leave!”
THAT’S THE PROBLEM YOU IDIOTS!! PEOPLE ARE LEAVING!!
This attitude drives me absolutely bonkers.
i was curious about the Ontario psychotherapists so i googled. they do have a special ‘professional’ group website, and they crow that their therapists have gone through a training ‘institute’ program, and recommend that you insist any psychotherapist you chose have taken at least two years study. they also appear to be in love with analysis for their members.
(they trashed shrinks and, to a lesser degree, psychologists)
beer and barratts privateers. really OP.
Actually, crock – that’s great advice! I like the way you think.
