I am a mature member of HRM who likes to takes my grandson in his buggy shoppping on Quinpool Road. When I cross the road at the former St Pats and by the Sicilian Pizza the flashing lights starts half way across. With Baby I can’t speed up. I don’t feel safe crossing at these lights. Come on HRM we are not all speedy students. Make the walking man longer.

I guess you’re not familiar with the walk/don’t walk signals. Little man means walk, Flashing hand means continue walking you still have time, but don’t start crossying if it’s already flashing andSolid hand means don’t walk. I’m sure you had more than enough time to get across the street. Especially when it doesn’t start flashing till you are already half way across!
Yeah, way to go korupt_kitten. You just berated the elderly. Maybe a person with disabilities will write a bitch so you can tell them off too. If you had read the bitch properly you would have relized that Carole said that when the hand starts flashing she can’t speed up to get across before it is too late because she has a baby with her. But thanks for that wonderful lesson on how to cross a street.
Time a light cycle someday Michael and you’ll find the flashing hand time is equal to or greater than the solid “walk” light. So if the pedestrian is halfway across the road when the hand starts flashing then he has ample time to continue to the other side, at the same pace, before traffic gets a green light. It’s a non issue.

Just for your information Michael, I too always have a baby in a stroller with me so I do know what I’m talking about. Now if you had read the post, you would have seen that the person said it started flashing when they were HALFWAY across. I’ve been in that situation many a time before, while pushing a baby in a stroller and I’ve had time to finish crossing. Did you here them in their bitch at any time saying that the light changed while they were crossing–NO. So they still had time to cross!
She’s an older lady for christ sake! She’s pushing her grandson NOT her son. If HRM was committed to crosswalk safety they wouldn’t have lights flashing when ANYBODY is halfway through an intersection. Maybe we should ALL read the post again?!?
Ex-Haligonian-I haven’t had the chance to time a light with a stop watch but I’m glad you have. Who kew it would come in handy some day. And, Ms korupt_kitten…I’m glad you have the physical ability to push that stroller across the street before the light changes. So now that we have detirmined that you two are experts at crossing the street maybe you could use some of your expertise to coach Carole and help her get across as her bitch says she has a problem with this. No one cares that you two can make it across the road in time. Carole does not feel she can do it safely and her bitch is valid.
I really sympathize with the bitcher on this one. I’m an able bodied 23 year-old without any children. And I’m a pretty fast walker. There are definately a couple of crossing signals in the city that have a flashing hand signal that is too quick. A good example is the one at the University & Robie intersection. I’m partway accross the road, the hand starts flashing and the other light is green by the time I get accross unless I break into a jog. It’s stupid and I’m sure it’d be a lot more frustrating if I was a little less mobile and I had a stroller.
