Actually, if you take a look at the Mu Lan Chinese Cultural Centre, they have a shin dig going on for the Chinese New Year. http://www.mulan.ca/event.htm
So quit bitching already.
oooooh. I LOVE hot pot!!
I want moon cake…
“moon pies….what a time to be alive.”
Throw your own party with mooncake and hot pot, that’s what I’m doing. Complete with fireworks display.
Do you ever get tired of being stupid Sebastian?
I really, really can’t believe I’m reading this. Not the post- I think the post is great.
But these comments…
Are there really people out there that think like this? Please tell me for some odd reason, you’re just doing this online to cause a stir… because if you’re actually this ignorant/stupid in your everyday life, I feel sorry for you.
This isn’t attractive, or funny. Yes, this is Canada. Yes, our New Years is Jan 1 (thanks for reminding everyone …?)
But we celebrate diversity. That’s what makes Canada great. That’s why Halifax is great.
People who leave comments like this need to get their heads out their ass.
Talanathas is right.
Let’s get in the spirit!
I suggest we all keep our stores and businesses open, gamble, drink and kareoke amongst ourselves as usual, and celebrate, um, diversity…
I make a mean hot and sour soup that rivals anything I’ve had in Toronto’s Chinatown, my old stomping grounds. A trip to Toronto isn’t complete without a streetcar ride to Chinatown’s Kim Moon Bakery for some Dim Sum, followed by a stroll over to Kensington Market’s Courage My Love for some vintage shopping then wrapping up with dessert at the Roach-A-Rama.
Talanathas, don’t take it to heart……it’s mid-February and they may be a tad bored and stir-crazy.
Oceanlady…..I will see you there! Oh wait….Toronto!?
How about in Halifax’s China town?
god, I’m impressed you live here. I’m sorry people are assholes.
The Vietnamese community always has activities going on at a local community centre. You just need to find out the details. Call up some of the restaurants like Fong Sing, Pho Hoang Minh, or New Fortune. Ask them for details and they’ll be able to give you all the details you’d need.
If you’re looking for Chinese or Korean festivities, call up any of the local Chinese or Korean restaurants and ask for details. They’re bound to know.
Lunar New Year celebrations vary amongst the different ethnic groups, but if you’re ever stuck, pick up the phone and make some phone calls.
