I can’t stand poor grammar. Can’t fucking stand it. It’s alright to hit a key wrong or forget a capital letter every now and then, but c’mon, some of the latest bitches have been physically painful to read.

Is it that these people don’t have the extra 15 seconds to review what’s been previously typed and make corrections? Is it that they genuinely don’t see the mistakes? Have instant messanger and the new ‘query finishers’ on sites like YouTube rendered a whole generation ignorant to the very language they claim to speak?

I understand that this is primarily a website designed to vent frustrations and entertain those of us who read/comment, but it’s frankly embarrasing to look at sometimes. If there was ever an argument for why failing more kids in grades 1-3 would be a good thing, this site would be it.

  1. ’embarrasing’ has two s’s

    Now that’s embarrassing….

You know firefox would have corrected that for you right?
Didn’t have the 15 seconds to install it?

  2. Somehow I pioture the OP as a six foot scowling nun with a metal yardstick.

My Gawd, lighten up. There are more pressing issues in life than whether or not you use proper grammar. If that drives you nuts, I don’t want to even imagine what else pushes you over the edge.

  3. Agreed with OP, while it may be a minor thing now, this fills me with fear for the next generation.

  4. I am not familiar with instant messanger. Must mean instant messenger… You should have spent that 15 seconds reviewing your message to further drive your point!

All typographical errors aside, I also agree with the OP. I believe text messaging plays a big part in this.

  5. Bitcher here – touche on my own grammatical errors. I knew I was setting myself up for high levels of scrutiny but I foolishly missed a few obvious ones.

OR, maybe I’ll take cover behind my initial statement and claim that I “hit a wrong key” (or two), which, by my logic, is acceptable.

I’ll bet all of you made sure your comments had proper grammar before posting them though, eh? I’ll consider that a victory. Huzzah!

  6. This would be painfully funny if you had made a couple typos there. I think what’s worse though is when people write in all caps – calm the fuck down. Ever heard of e-etiquette?

  7. Or they could get a mac, zZz. Macs automatically highlight misspelled words on everything 🙂

  8. Kitty, I do not condone ever ‘buying’ a mac.
    Anyone.
I DO condone buying a comp with linux on it (so you’re not paying Apple or Microshaft for the OS) and install whichever (perhaps pirated) OS you prefer. Snow Leopard is out if you want to try….just don’t buy a mac with it. Get some decent hardware that isn’t over-inflated. I recommend the Greenish-Lyphy store around the corner from me for any help or ordering.

  9. Sadly enough, its not just elementary school skimping on grammar. I just wasted a semester of high school English courses without writing one graded paper. No feedback, no commentary, no reminders of correct use of commas or apostrophes (which I dont use online FYI). Nada. My second semester Journalism course is more or less the same, the “editing” of our “paper” is shiite, just like the quality and development of the writing itself. Sigh.

Call me a nerd… but I try and take pride in my writing. Whats missing is a good education system, and a healthy dose of pride in kids my age. (and older, and younger)
