A few weeks ago, when I had to confront a dude in a rough part of the city over his yelling and grabbing at a female who was yelling and screaming back at him; I watched as many ‘dudes’ walk by with their heads down and eyes on the ground, desperately trying to ignore the situation being played out before them. This I could kind of understand, even though we had the numbers, but you were still fucking pussies and walked away… Maybe it was because of the rough neighbourhood, and the scary dude involved, I convinced myself.

So now, my female friend just let me know that last night she was physically assaulted, manhandled and chased down Barrington Street in front of everyone milling about by a man our GLORIOUS POLICE FORCE have charged several times with sexual assault and released back into the community (like the recent pedophile) and during this attack, she stated (as a most dire understatement) that NO ONE TRIED TO HELP HER!

Fuck you, dickless shit excuse for ‘men’ within the city! You fucking pieces of cowardly chicken shit! Just keep ignoring the problems of your brothers and sisters, just as you do the problems you heap on nature! Pathetic excuse for humans! Humans are supposed to be fearless warriors. What the fuck happened to you?!? —You Fucking Pussies

  1. Since when are humans supposed to fearless warriors? This isn’t World of Warcraft, you know.

  2. What a gender role you’re prescribing! Men can’t be relied upon to be the ‘heroes’ of situations anymore. I know plenty of women, myself included, who have more balls and more strength than most of the ‘dudes’ I’ve seen in this city. If I ever saw someone in trouble, the last thing I would do is wait for a man to help.

  3. You know what you two? I sort of see where you’re coming from but at the same time, what self-respecting human being walks by when someone needs help? I’m a GIRL (and yes, granted i study martial arts) but even before i studied martial arts, i’d NEVER just walk on by. I’ll either stop or if i can’t get involved i do SOMETHING. You don’t have to be a fucking ninja to be a hero. You just have to know the number for 911.

  4. And halifax10, like it or not, men and women are completely different and like it or not, they ARE bigger (and quite often stronger) than us. And it’s NICE to know that when we’re in danger, there might be a nice guy with balls who is willing to step in and make our bullies pick on someone their own size.

Whether you like it or not.

  5. I agree without this bitch. I was in a lineup at a bar here and the guy behind me was fighting with his girlfriend, he grabbed her by the shoulders and everyone but me turned around an went silent. I told him in no uncertain terms no matter what the situation it is unacceptable to grab and manhandle any woman. I was quickly told where to go, and was threatened… To this I laughed and told him to watch his step, and it would be my pleasure to defend myself. Then the bouncer noticed the problem and buddy was removed, and the stupid girl went with him.

As much as it sounds shitty, not a lot of people are not willing to get their teeth knocked down their throat for someones self inflicted problem. Some women choose to be with these dicks for a multitude of stupid reasons. As for stopping an assault or crime you have to be very careful legally what you do or you yourself may become the perpatrator very quickly in the eyes of the law.

  6. at the very least, get off your smartphones long enough to take pictures and call the police.

  7. STEPHEN HARPER IS THE DEVIL – I have also been there and have had a different result the girl stick up for her piece of shit boyfriend that was treating her like shit. She told me to mind my own fucking business….so I can see both sides to this

  8. I.K – most guys are bigger and stronger but that doesnt necessary mean that if physical confrontation occurs they will win – if you get one good eye/throat/ball shot in, and your outta there. Also, smaller people can jump up on them and beat the crap out of them from the back ! Just saying being big doesn’t count for much when your up against a crazy small chick !

  9. I don’t think this is a “man” issue, I think this is a humanity issue.
People are so wrapped up in themselves and/or are afraid of helping someone when help is blatantly needed.

If people would just stop and think: what if the roles were reveresed and it was you who needed the help? I bet you’d feel pretty awful if no one stepped up for you, and I bet you’d be squawking the loudest if that happened to you.

Yes, men typically are bigger and stronger. But how hard is it for someone, man or woman, to call 911 if they witness something like what the OB is recalling?

Good grief. Its not rocket science.

  10. kind of like the show on OWN – What would you do?

what would you do? most of us turn and walk away. Maybe shake our head at the action but do nothing to stop it – even calling the police.

    sad day for us all.

however – some people have some balls and will call the police or intervene (sp?) in some manner and I salute you. Just don’t be stupid and get yourself killed. If it looks bad call the police and be prepared to be a witness.

  11. I definitely agree with the general sentiment of the bitch, but at the same time, I’m a scrawny little nerd boy so there’s not a whole lot I could do in a physical confrontation.

  12. Yes, one can intervene but what does one do when a weapon is brandished. A gun, a knife, a pipe, or whatever changes everything. That said, a call to 9-1-1 is in order.

  13. Exactly Bro Tim. I recall a few anecdotal stories from police about how their responses to domestic disturbances can turn violent in an instant. A lot of times aggressors will have weapons, and use them once the police try to intervene. Personally I’d rather not put myself at that risk, especially since I have absolutely zero police training or any expertise in conflict resolution. Better off calling the police.

  14. Let’s not forget the American sailor some years back who intervened in a dispute and wound up on the coroner’s slab stabbed to death. The Marquis of Queensbury Rules went away a long time ago.

  15. or hey, the article today about the cabbie who got shanked for helping the girls out…
    http://thechronicleherald.ca/Front/9021533…

still… I noticed the OP conveniently left the time of day she was walking….and whether she was alone or not. If you’re out alone downtown at night all dazzled up for your 15 seconds of bar star fame… you’re the most likely to be targeted.
drag a friend or two out FFS…
You shouldn’t HAVE to for safety but the reality of the situation warrants it.

  16. OP, just be happy you didn’t get stabbed for intervening, like the taxi driver last night did. NO one should interfere, unless they have a death wish.

  17. If you see a situation like OP described, at the very least call the police. Doing nothing makes you part of the problem.

  18. Darren Watts was permanently brain damaged and nearly killed after being beaten by about 9 guys when he tried to keep one of them from beating his pregnant girlfriend back in the late nineties. Sadly, the only people you can be sure are armed with something in Halifax are the ones committing these sorts of acts. Even if arrested, it’s not like many of them have much to lose or to fear. I’m all for concealed carry laws for extremely well researched law abiding citizens. At least there would be the element of doubt in a criminal’s mind. At the very least women should be able to legally carry pepper spray.

  19. Well if you ask me there is not much point in helping anyone out these days…. If you do you’re liable to wind up getting charged by the retards that you are trying to help or getting stabbed/beaten/shot at a later date. And besides if some asshole is treating his girlfriend like that in a public place, chances are it’s not the first time he’s done it and well if she is too stupid to take a hike, I say the twat deserves it.

I have seen too many females date major assholes that beat and berate them and they run right back to them time after time… its disgusting. They will never learn.

  20. I agree in part- at the very least, call for help. But as mr cabbie found out (though he was doing a good deed), intervening isn’t always the smartest thing to do.

And it’s not just Halifax, OP- it’s a worldwide phenomenon. Ever see that show “What Would You Do?” It’s a psychological thing to- called the bystander effect. Everyone does nothing because they assume that the other people watching will. Ah, human nature.

But yeah. At least call the coppers so that there is a record of what went down should it escalate further.

  21. I stopped a guy from beating on his girlfriend once.
What happened afterwards taught me a lesson:
The stupid bitch went straight back to him and I nearly got my ass handed to me.
She put herself in that situation. She has options but, she chose the drama.
This world isnt a John Wayne movie. Things dont get better right after u kick the dude’s ass.
This situation started long before you showed up (whether she had low self esteem etc.) and the problem wont go away until she grows some brains.

  22. So, OB…what exactly did you do to help?
Did you break it up? Call the cops?
Or, you did nothing, except bitch?

I’d probably call the police, but I’m sure as hell not going to step into the middle of a drunken fight.

Don’t expect anybody else to do what you’re not willing to do.

    Damon Crooks – RIP

  23. Last summer I was in Calgary waiting for the C-train and saw a man slap a woman in the face a few times on the other side of the street of a busy platform filled with loads of people. No one looked up or said anything. One of my (male) friends from this city jumped off the platform and ran across to help her and wave over a police officer.

Point of that story: it’s not just men in Halifax that turn a blind eye, it’s people in general.

  24. i agree, it has nothing to do with your gender. most people would rather record stuff than use their voice

  25. Do you know how many of the beatings, stabbings and other violent and potentially fatal incidents are a direct result of someone sticking up for a girl who won’t (notice my choice of the word “won’t” and not “can’t”) stand up for herself? I’ve seen it happen way too many times.

I do believe that’s what started the argument that left my friend Dave beaten to death. It’s not worth it, I’m sorry. So basically I should risk my life for a stranger because she’s a woman and I’m a man? Times have changed.

People get themselves into these situations and I really don’t feel sorry for ANYONE, no matter what gender who allows people to walk on them, in public no less.

There are payphones everywhere and she probably has a cellphone, if she wants cops involved, let her call them. Did she ask for anyone’s help?

Call me insensitive, call me selfish, I’ll be the insensitive, selfish guy who didn’t die before my time to save some damsel in distress from her own fucking stupidity and naivety. Some of these stories about girls taking their “man’s” side right after he abused her help to prove my point. These people do it to themselves.

What about when I need help, you ask? I’ll take my chances. I sure as fuck wouldn’t want anyone calling the cops on me because I’m having an argument that really would only be exacerbated by police involvement. It’s not like the guy will be off the street for long, if at all, anyways.

“some people have some balls and will call the police or intervene (sp?) in some manner and I salute you. Just don’t be stupid and get yourself killed.”

A fuck of a lot easier said than done. Nobody plans on getting killed.

It’s not a matter of having balls, either. Someone messes with me or my loved ones I’m willing to put my safety on the line, but not for a stranger, especially a self-victimizing one.

If I saw someone getting raped or murdered I’d have to do something but an argument? Some pushing and shoving? Not my concern. Good on you for being heroic OP, but it’s unfair to place that expectation on everyone.
