You’re my therapist. Look, I’m sorry I missed our appointment two weeks ago. But as I said, it was a misunderstanding. YOU’RE the one who is supposed to have it together, to be mature. When I emailed you back regarding the missed appointment, why didn’t you respond? It’s been almost two weeks since I wrote. Why are you being such a bitch?
Is it because I asked you when you would like to have our next appointment? I know you prefer that I tell you the days that I am available. But what I was trying to say, was “Okay, you pick the day.” I mean, you already know my general schedule. What is so damn hard about replying to emails and phone calls? Why does it usually take at least FIVE DAYS for you to respond?
Also, I’m pretty sure I should get a new therapist/psychologist anyway. I’m bi-polar type II. When I was diagnosed by my doctor over 2 years ago, you told me that you don’t know much about that area. So what is the fucking point, when you obviously have no interest (or time?) to educate yourself about it?
You also treat other members of my family. I sometimes don’t appreciate the way you encourage my sibling to go off in flights of fancy. Or to trust people that are obviously bad for them. I realize that they have to make their own mistakes. But really, come on. Sometimes I wonder if you have their best interests at heart. Or are we just another paycheque to you?
So – SUCK IT UP. Either start acting like the grown-up therapist your are supposed to be, or I’ll cut you loose. It isn’t easy, after years and years of therapy with you. But I’m beginning to think that there is no other option.

Unexceptable! Take your money else where, and you’ll probably be really happy you did, when you find another therapist .. omg do it
Therapists are often as crazy as their patients.
If you’re inclined to ask the question “[am I] just another paycheque to you?” the answer is a resounding YES
Aha, it was all part of the therapy, congrats, you’re cured!
“I’m bi-polar type II. When I was diagnosed by my doctor over 2 years ago, you told me that you don’t know much about that area.”
To me your therapist was up front with you about their experience in regards to your problem. Why the hell didn’t you go to someone with the expertise with bi-polar matters. To me you screwed up not the therapist. And BTW some people are not slaves to e-mail. They have this old invention out there called a telephone.
All this depends on whether or not msi is covering the shrink or not.
If you get a referral from your GP a psychologist/psychiatrist is covered under provincial health insurance. If not, you pay yourself.
Problem *is* in all of HRM there are only TWO psychologists working for Capital Health, and appointments can take months upon months to get….and finding a shrink that you’re comfortable with can be a hard thing to do. I saw a psychologist in the valley for a grand total of three times before I realised she was not only a cunt, she was actually making things worse for me. And I was seeing a university shrink a few years back. Best therapist I’ve ever experienced. But as soon as I graduated, I couldn’t go to see her anymore. My next shrink was at another university and was….terrible. I’ve lucked out with my latest therapist, but she’s a university counsellor and after next may I’m on my own.
So, if you’re relying on MSI to pay for these services, OP, you might be in for a long wait for a new one IF your GP/capital health agrees to send you to a new one.
Bro Tim, it’s not exactly easy to just switch to a new psychiatrist or mental health professional here in Halifax. Getting an appointment with a regular psychologist was easy, but not cheap, and they couldn’t do anything to help me besides tell me I need to see a psychiatrist as soon as I can. Hell, I’ve been waiting since april to see my first one for possible bipolar. Good luck Yak!
Weird, I got my psychiatrist referral within two weeks, sodeypop, and I don’t have a severe mood disorder like bi polar.
Go see your referring doc again and push the referral.
sodeypop, the first time the OB saw the therapist (which to me does not mean a psychatrist, who is a medical doctor), the therapist told the OB that bi-polar was NOT her (I’ll assume here because the OB uses the word bitch, and yes I know what assume means LOL) specialty and if fact did not know much about it. If the OB had any brains, the OB would have shopped around to find an expert in that area. That is not switching therapists at that point because there was no therapist.
Bro Tim, you obviously did not carefully read the OB’s bitch. I think they have been seeing the therapist for more than 2 years. Just because they got the diagnosis of bipolar type II 2 years ago, doesn’t mean that is when they started therapy. Also, they wrote: “What is so damn hard about replying to emails and phone calls? Why does it usually take at least FIVE DAYS for you to respond?” Therefore, I’m pretty sure they know how to use a telephone.
Yakkitty Yak if you are covered by a mediacl plan there is a great Dr that deals with Bipolar Type II that I was able to get into within 2 weeks of my refereal. Dr. D Ross, mention it to your Family Doctor and I’m sure she/he can refer you.
