So this evening, being a nice night & all, my buddies & I decided to head over to citadel hill and grab a patch of grass to chill and smoke a J, take in the view and shit, you know, relax, hangout a bit and chat.

Anyway, everything was nice & peaceful for a while… that is, until we heard a commotion in the distance, and the next thing we know, there are people practically running past us down the hill (we’re sitting on the side).

WHY you ask? Well, apparently a bunch of knuckle-dragging punks got it in their neanderthal peabrains to ‘bash fags’ on the hill (with a hammer no less). At least, that’s what someone told us as SHE quickly got the fuck out of there. There were 4 big guys, not streetkids, no these shitbags had $$$ and homes to go to.

It occured to me then, Halifax is just SAD, there’s no other way to put it. ONLY pathetically SAD LOSERS take it upon themselves to go around BEATING on innocent people, just for shits & giggles (except it’s probably not funny to get your skull crushed with a hammer). And the thing is, that kinda violent shit happens here in halifax, it’s almost expected and even tolerated.

Needless to say, our night was pretty much ruined by a bunch of low-life scum (they looked like university brats actually). So, to say that I’m looking forward to leaving this backward dump of a city would be an understatement.

The people here SUCK, I’ve had enough, i’m gone, and good fucking riddance too!

Disgusted with Halifax and so-called ‘friendly’ maritimers.

  1. I hope you called the police and offered your services as a witness, since you got a look at the cocksuckers. Because if you didn’t, then your self righteous disgust isn’t worth shit. I also feel the need to point out that if they were “university brats” as you suggest, then there is a very good chance that they are “from away”. Of course it’s possible that they were locals. But this is a pretty flimsy excuse for yet another round of Maritime bashing.

  2. I have to agree with Miranda im sick of coming on here and reading people bash us maritimers. You gonna get that kind of petty shit, doesnt matter where you are. Not everybody is like that and im tired of people lumping us all in with theese good for nothing kids. Do us all a favor and get the fuck over it

  3. If you could have gotten killed with a hammer and didn’t, I’d say that’s not such a bad night after all.

  4. while this story is sad, it is really amusing that people like miranda and others that come on here, that bash people that have differing opinions or what not, are bothered that people bash this place. People like you dont make it any more welcome with things like “Do us all a favor and get the fuck over it”, or “if you dont like it leave”its as though you people think this place is beyond negative critisism. You are in a place where people are putting in thier “Bitches”. This isnt listen to our compliments.

  5. Homie, Miranda didn’t “bash” anyone. She simply pointed out that there’s a chance these assholes aren’t even from the Maritimes. A good portion of our “university brats” are from other parts of Canada.I think people tend to get their backs up when someone says they’re leaving because of an incident like this, it’s like they’re suggesting that this kind of crap only happens here. News flash – it happens everywhere. You could move to Montreal/Calgary/Toronto/Fort Mac tomorrow, and witness the same disgusting behaviour.Anyone been following the Asian gang shootings in Calgary?Anyone remember the serial killer in Vancouver? That poor girl who was shot in Toronto on Boxing Day a few years ago?Oh right. I forgot. Crap and violence only happens in Halifax.

  6. plus I think Miranda was more on about how it seems almost daily there’s at least one bitch from someone saying how much they hate it here.Forget all the anger comign on somewhere where you KNOW there are predominatly maritimers, or people who have been her elong enought o have found this site (sort of like if I went on a predomanently black site and started throwing around the n word…), it’s just boring. there’s no discussion that can be generated by that, not even any good jokes beyond the same thing we’ve had over and over again:someone comes on here, says it’s not so bad here, and lists reasons why.one of about 5 other posters refutes it, claims moving to Alberta or other partssomone else then rebutes THAT, saying the west isn’t any betterthen homie arrives to laugh at us all for being so amusingly hypocrital, bashing other’s opinion (newsflash: generalized hatred of a location you are in is not an opinion. I’m allowed to disagree with peopel and that’ snot BASHING).so basically, who ever keeps posting these (and I suspect it’s probably the same person or the same couple of people), it’s getting a little old. put down the stick. the horse is dead.

  7. how about 4 university aged kids being representative of the population of Halifax???And homie who are you quoting? This might be the only one of these type of treads that don’t start with that so why bring it up? I agree with the beav though this persons night, all things considered, turned out about as well as it could have. I wonder how pissed at the maritimers they would have been if they got knocked out with the hammer, had their joint burn out in their hand and had the cops find them unconscious in possession and get a $300 plus fine.I also do hope they called 911 and followed up with the police to give a description so maybe there would be a 1% chance of catching these guys

  8. Someone was stabbed to death on a Greyhound bus in Manitoba last night. I guess all people from Manitoba are pathetically sad losers. Everyone who lives there should move away.

  9. so now people that come on this site that want to bitch about things can…. but just not about this city? I missed the memo on that.”newsflash: generalized hatred of a location you are in is not an opinion” Liking or disliking something is based on an opinion.

  10. You can bitch about anything you want, Homie. People are just tired of the “Halifax is the only place in Canada with rude people/violence/whatever” attitude.

  11. That is how you are taking it. I dont see anywhere in the OP that suggest that other places arent shit. I just see them making referance to here.

  12. Well perhaps the OP should enlighten us and tell us which parts of Canada are non-crappy so that we’re all in the know.

  13. but why should they? The bitch is pretty direct about why they dont like this place. I think it is a weak thing to suggest that this is such a bad place. However, incidents like this, and that sailor that got shanked and shit like that, are great reasons for people to want out of here. Matter of fact, i recall one of my first incidents with violence in this city. It was near christmas time and was that giant brawl with the cheap booze fueled patrons from the two dirty slut factories downtown. There had to be 100 people fighting. Now, its not that i am not used to seeing it, it was the reaction of the people in the media the next day and the comments people on sights like this were making that made me think that shit like OP is talking about is no big deal here. I was stunned that more people werent appaulled and were actually defending the bars in this situation. This is a maritime thing and always has been. “The right” to cheap booze is something they defend even though it has an obvious connection to the violence in the core after bars close. I have never been a victim of said violence, but many a tourist that arent used that shit, are stunned. Living here your whole life, this stuff would be common place here. Many nights, you see the fists a flying, it doesnt seem to be a big deal. Not saying other cities dont have violence, but it is something else here.

  14. disliking elements of an area, specific people, circumstances, or incidents- yeah go nuts.but generally not liking something, but being unable to back it up by anything more than ‘I hate it here. I hate it alot. everyone sucks. fuck you all!’- that’s not so much as an opinion as it is just inflammatory.now, the OP here didn’t really do that- he had a complaint, and used it to extrapolate that everything here must clearly suck. that’s a little annoying but at least he’s got an opinion, and the ability to back it up.but that’s rare. there’s been a series of ‘I hate halifax, how can any of you possibly disagree?’ type posts here. it’s gettign old. people who liek it here can defend it till the cows come home, people who hate it can bash it right until those cows are hamburger, it won’t change either sides opinion and in general isn’t all that interesting anyway.and you coming on here just to tell us allw e’re being hypocritical by saying we’d rather NOT engage in that go-round again is just annoying.

  15. so why don’t we all get this thread back on track, ignore the flaming red herring that is the ‘I hate halifax’ element, and focus on the other- the violence on the hill, the ‘fag’ bashing, whatever…..come on people, there’s lots of fodder there for our bored-at-work grist mills! pay no attention to the idiot behind the hating-ns curtain.

  16. i am guessing that this isnt the first incident to the OP to make them want to make such a comment. SHould this actually be the first incident to make them want to trash this place, yes, this is pretty lame.

  17. My point is, there is no place in this country – not that I’m aware of anyway – where bad things don’t happen. So, my question is, where is a person supposed to go? You can leave Halifax because of stupid “fag bashers” on this hill, or because a sailor got killed outside a bar. So you go to a place like Toronto. But then you’d have to leave Toronto because a guy got killed in a driveby on Eglington Saturday night, and poor little girls get murdered outside the Eaton Centre on Boxing. So you move to Winnipeg. But then you’d have to leave Winnipeg because a poor guy got decapitated on a bus last night. Plus a guy was arrested on Portage Avenue yesterday with a submachine-gun, a high capacity magazine and a shot gun. God only knows what he was going to do. So then you have to leave Winnipeg. So you move to Vancouver, except shitty things happen there too. Robert Pickton murdered a bunch of prostitutes. Gang violence is at an all time high. So I guess you’d then have to leave Vancouver. What I’m asking is: where is this Canadian utopia? Where is this magical place where every single person is polite, there is zero violence, and 100% tolerance.

  18. Normally when H-bomb takes over a thread, I wash my hands of it. But I want to bring it back to my original question for a moment. Did the OP in fact report what he saw? Or did he just screw up his face in disgust and walk away? He got a good look at the bastards. Good enough to come to the conclusion that they were well grown, well heeled university students. What action did he take? If you’re not part of the solution, my friend, then you’re part of the problem.

  19. Random acts of violence are FAR more prevelent here than Toronto. Take a look at the violent crime stats, if you ratio it out on a per person basis, you cant compare any of them incidents you mentioned to here. Like the OP stated, its almost expected here for people to say, “yeah, well look at (insert city)”. That doesnt really matter what goes on there. No matter if you agree this city sucks or not, the violence is still occuring here. Rather than waste time about what other places have, arent we better served talking about what can be done to get rid of that shit here?

  20. Violence or intolerance sucks, no matter where it happens. It just irritates me when people say they’re sick of it here, so they’re leaving, like the exact same things aren’t going to be happening in the place they go.

  21. exactly. I agree miranda- did he do anything about it? the cop shop is literally 3 feet from the hill. if ‘good’ people just up and leave instead of trying ot make things better, nothing will ever change.hmm maybe h-bomb and Kay should get togheter and compare stories of utopia…I’m sure they could find shangri-lala together somewhere ;)…..

  22. you might be irratated, but it is actually shocking how much random violence there is. Take a look at weeks worth Herald Vs the Toronto Sun, VS the vancouver papers.you dont see much random violence in them papers. Always drug dealers shooting each other, gangs plucking each other off. Its incredible how the media just puts the headlines that someone gets shot and that is that. Really, Toronto is pretty safe as is Montreal and Vancouver. Now I am not downplaying that you cant get mugged robbed or raped there. you just hear more random acts, here. One contributing factor is the poverty here. You have a larger gap between the haves and the have nots here. You have many areas where the poor, live a few blocks from the people that arent hurting. PineCrest and albro lake road are an example. That is a certain formula for robbings and shit like that. The other thing that makes this a city where random crime is likely to happen is almost unavoidable. The cost of shit out here makes it hard for the poorer folk to get shit. This has lots of people turning to crime.

  23. hedgy, have you not thought it odd, that the square is only blocks from the cop shop, and they have set up a substation in the square itself? Not to mention, all them bars downtown are less than 3 km from the copshop. I do not think the proximity of the copshop makes a difference in this city.

  24. I agree that a bunch of knuckle-heads going up the hill to beat up gays is completely random. I disagree though that the majority of Halifax’s crime is random. Many, if not most, of the murders committed in this city are drug-related. It’s scum bags killing scum bags.

  25. yes, but in this case, the OP was clearly outraged enough to take note of the people and write this post. I was referencing the location of the cop shop not so much in a ‘cops should have seen/stopped problem because it’s going on in their backyard’ way, as questioning the OPs lazieness if he didn’t walk the 4 feet to the police and make a report. police aren’t superheros, they do actually sometimes need tips from people who saw things happen. and hey, the OP said people were running away ANYWAY- why not just run in the direction of the police, file a report, and actually try to cahnge something here, instead of just being defeatist and saying it sucks I’m moving?

  26. i never suggested majority of the violent crime is random…. i am just sayin the ratio is far higher here than other locales. High costs of trival stuff, and a lot of people living under the poverty line is a perfect combination for high robbery rates and muggings and thefts and what not.

  27. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crime_in_Canadanow lets exclude the northern province like NWT and Yukon because hell 1 murder in that population makes the sample skewered because of the tiny population.Sask is the leader, but look, NS is far ahead of BC and Ontario for violent crime. hedgy. I guess you can look at it like running to the cop shop is a good idea, but how can you figure that is going to do something, when you have among one of the most violent areas in the city a few blocks away from the same police station. IMO, going to the police in that area is pointless, many people must have done that in the square and that area isnt any safer. THis is a sad crime that took place. Going to the cops, pointless if you ask me. They havent figured out the shit down gottigen, why would one expect this to be any different on the hill?

  28. well that’s pretty defeatist. why bother doing ANYTHIGN if nothign will change then?let’s all sit down and cry, then move west.

  29. Homie that table doesn’t show that Nova Scotia is “far ahead” of BC and Ontario. In overall violent crime it shows that NS is #4 of the 10 provinces, i.e. pretty much squarely in the middle. SK, MB, and BC are higher, and AB is pretty much tied with NS. ON is further down the list you, true.In each of the sub-categories NS is also squarely in the middle, and in most categories trails the leaders significantly. If anyone can demonstrate to me that homophobia wouldn’t be equally rampant in redneck Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta…or even in most parts of Ontario outside of the Eaton Centre…I’ll eat me ‘at. Quebec and BC are likely exceptions because their cultures are quite different.

  30. moving isnt the answer for me. I believe it is more about changing the things that make the climate perfect for such events. Better education, fixing the poverty situation of this province. We are all too quick to look elsewhere, the issue needs to be started here.

  31. Yeah “crimes of violence” – pretty much tied with AB for #4/5.In any case, there is violence. We know most of it is not organized violence, but little bands of roaming dirt bags. It’s kids / punks who think they’re being touch and cool. Something needs to be done about the education and employments prospects, the parenting, the youth justice system, and the culture of hopelessness and negativity (fed both by poverty and the good ole Maritime down-in-the-mouthism) that leads these kids to see nothing else to aspire to.

  32. I think this is a fake story. There is nothing in the police report about anyone being assaulted with a hammer or any other weapon.

  33. My impression was not that the story was fake, but that the point of view was fake. And probably the hammer. Maybe a bunch of dumb jocks were drunk and silly and actually did chase someone off the Hill, and he was a little pissed and wanted to Bitch about it, but sorta didn’t really wanna admit he was up there to smoke something other than a joint, you know? The one thing I have noticed over the years is that every single of my gay friends loooove to bash Halifax. It’s just not big and glamorous, shiny and fabulous enough for their finely honed designer tastes, and they look for any excuse to hate it.But I’m really really speculating here…

  34. that’s funny, cause I personally love the gay community here. I find it really open and accepting- you don’t ahve to be super super gay, or even gay at all, to go to reflections or take part etc. which is different from other cities where I either have to be a plaid-wearing-bull-dyke with a penchant for home depot or loudly declare status as a fag hag (and look, here’s my fag! see? see!) if I want to go to a gay club or an event put on by the gay community.yeah it’s not super fabulous or coated in glitter, but it’s all laid back and very Halifax.

  35. You’re probably right, Jammie. The OP was probably bullied by some jocks on the hill, and this is what he came up with. Maybe something happened, but I doubt it was an assault with a hammer.

  36. i never said not to, you can do that if you please.. that is your choice. I just dont see the point in many cases. Many events like this go unsolved. It doesnt change much.

  37. I dunno Hedgy, I’m not saying anything about the community as a whole, just that the guys I know all seem to be pretty “pffft Halifax…” a lot of the time and you can tell they dream of making a bigger more glamorous life as the Olsen twins’ publicist in New York having lunch with Chloe Sevigny at Nobu and helping to design the new Hilton line of crotchless panties while planning their Saturday night dinner party at the Milan townhouse, but something just holds them back and it’s pretty much Halifax’s fault they can’t get ahead.

  38. hahaha well I know those guys too………I think we should all start building some elaborate sparkly lie to give them hope that’s there’s glamour to be had here…just invent some super-fabulous fruit-fly celebraty here they can all fawn over, try to make the pogue seem like some super trendy place but hey, only THEY realize it’s more than just comfy couches and beer…..that sort of thing……

  39. “Slum is the new glam.”Speaking of which, why are gay bars always such absolute pits if they are catering to such a refined, distinguished and altogether superior clientele? Anywho, back to the OP. If someone is really making a special trip to a well known gay hookup area, they must have some pretty deep motivation. This isn’t the sort of thing that would pop into your head as “hey that would be fun.” Are gay bashers struggling to hide their own deep dark secret?

  40. i’ve occasionally gone up on the hill at night and experienced similar events, usually a group of boneheads screaming “fucking fags” at everyone on the hill. it doesn’t matter if you’re gay or not, just being up there at night can get you attacked by closet case homophobes.as for reporting incidents to the halifax police, i’ve said it before and i’ll say it again, what’s the fucking point?? they don’t do anything about it!!fuck, i witnessed a horrible beating in my neighbourhood once, where a guy was bricked (literally) by a group of thugs, the victim was covered in his own blood. the police show up, and even though i was a primary witness, the officer didn’t exactly encourage me to make a witness statement, in fact, he asked me three times, “are you SURE you want to make a statement?” basically, the cop was trying to talk me out of it. as for the incident, NOTHING ever came of it, no charges were laid, as expected.

  41. Don’t let the door hit you on the way out!If this is true, it really really fucking sucks.Cut frankly, I’m disgusted by people taking some bad apples and taking it out on the whole city.PS-many (not all, I realize) University brats are not from here.Fuck you.

  42. speaking of ‘circumcision’did you know that the neonatal foreskin can be harvested (grown in a petri dish basically) to produce new skin for graft operations, etc?apparently, one foreskin can provide enough cells for a year’s production of artificial skin.on the other hand, chopping-off pieces of a child’s healthy tissue/organs seems barbaric to me. after all, the skin wouldn’t be there in the first place if it wasn’t meant to be. unless it’s medically necessary to remove it, we should probably just leave well enough alone, imo.

  43. It’s amazing what baby skin can do.I had a whole new face fabricated for myself out of foreskin parts….guess I should include a smiley face to show that I’m joking::0)

  44. umm, i was wondering how long it would take someone to come up with that one… i just couldn’t bring myself to say it, dickface/dickhead is even too drole for me

  45. It was so easy and so predictable I almost refrained from doing I, myself. But it proved easily and predictably irresistible.

  46. It was so easy and so predictable I almost refrained from doing it, myself. But it proved easily and predictably irresistible.

  47. That box-cutter thing was totally predictable. Nostradamus said:And, in the SAD city by the seaThere came a man with a j-birdAnd another with a hammerAnd a great battle ensuedArising from the battle there was a great BitchA cycloneThat led commenters in many directionsNorth and East and South and WestAnd left and right and libertarianAnd the great solution was born of this great storm of ideasThe sea and its people will be carried to the WestThe land of the eternal god whose name is spoken as BarrelAnd whose people are not violent, nor homophobic, nor drunk, nor poorThe seas rose and swelledAnd carried the Maritime people to the west as if on a great airplaneAnd Qwerty spake:Passeth the box cutterI will sink this migration, I will appease the god BarrelBecause I got here firstAnd I don’t want you mother fucking Bitches Bringing your whining and complaining to meAnd she smote the captain, and she cut the sailsAnd she broke the rudderAnd she sank the migrationThe people slid into the great sea As it receded it carried them back to the SAD cityWhere they resumed their drinking, and their homophobiaAnd their violence, and their povertyAnd their dislike of aromatic spicesMost of all they resumed their complainingThe Bitch board was thus savedAnd Qwerty is to thank

  48. Your prediction was predictable.ALRIGHT! I lied!!! It was awesome and cool and humbling and stupefying and breathtaking. I am but a lowly poster, and poser, a fleck of skin beneath the fingernail of our great and powerful Oz… I mean Jams… how can I follow such brilliance; what can a such a dvorak in disguise as myself do in the face of such hijacky goodness?I’m retreating now, to a troll cave, occupied by he who shall remain nameless.Well, maybe I’ll hang out for a few more minutes… since it’s getting all prophetic up in here, and what not…

  49. I should mention that you he who shall remain nameless was in fact that Captain you smote. I gave you that honor in my tale, yes, because no one would love it so much as you. But I couldn’t say so directly, because, you know, he’s nameless.

  50. I smote the captain, I smote the captain, na na na boo boo!!Though he may be smote, his tales of SAD city’s failure to clinch world class sporting events, his aversion to contractions, his fancying of our dislike of him a symptom of our inability to comprehend his “formal speak”, his long, lonely nights of recounting his long, lonely nights in hom(i)eless shelters, for these and for so many other long, long tales, tales not unlike the dog endlessly chasing its own tail, he will be remembered for the dickface he was.Though we may catch glimpses of his ghost wandering around these parts, re-telling and re-telling and re-telling his tales of woe, we must remember, he is gone. Do not attempt to engage him, to draw him back to the world of he living. We must release him.

  51. Aversion to contractions…formal language…is the Captain really a Commander? Commander Data? Hmmmmm…..

  52. I am soooooooooooooo fucking TIRED of reading people talking/typing shit about Halifax….I was fucking BORN and RAISED here, and would never DREAM of doing anything like that… Oh wait, Where was it, edmonton? On a greyhound bus, a fucking guy stabbed and CUT THE HEAD OFF of another passenger! FUCK, DONT GO THERE!!! A bunch of crazies live in Edmonton!!!University Brats eh? cause you realize that MOST of the people IN THE HALIFAX UNIVERSITIES are from OUTSIDE of the Maritimes right??? .. SO FUCK OFF….I USUALLY dont get wound up about stupid shit, Im just soooo fucking TIRED of the Halifax Bashing.. It has NOTHING to do with the province its self… MORE SO, how the fucking parents are bringing their kids up, to think this shit is OK or acceptable… (or just not teaching them that its WRONG!!!) FUCK OFF HATERS!!!

  53. Had to pay some Homiage to the Great Bitch Rivalry; every story needs its grand conflicts. And, dude, there’s nothing wrong with a little fun. The thread had pretty much its course and was already off the rails. In fact, I think it was me who did it…

  54. im not saying i had issue with it happening, it just usually is the person that doesnt say all that much. please do not ride the bus with me jammie. I need my head.

  55. LOL. Hey I wasn’t the one with the box cutter. Don’t shoot the messenger! My little tale was just being silly and I am not involved in the GBR – I just thought it was an amusing thing to poke fun at.So yeah, did the guy get pissed off at the snoring? Was he on that bus specifically to target somone? Or was he just a mentally ill person who went nuts for no apparent reason?

  56. the article i linked doesnt say. But if you read his demeanor….DUDE TRIED TO EAT THE FUCKER !!!!!this is a no brainer in the mentally ill department. I think they will blame this one on video games.

  57. amazing how yet another intelligent conversation was turned into a chat room by qwerty. For the record more than 60% of the university population is from Nova Scotia. Maybe not halifax, but this province.

  58. lovely fact there….not what I experienced myself at school, but wahtever.and I enjoyed the little chat 🙂 don’t be angry- you made it into the Ballad of Jammie after all!

  59. Oh Jesus, yeah I see that now. I didn’t click the link at first because I had already read other articles, but this one has new details.Yeah, definite psychosis. Probably thought he was smoting the devil or something.

  60. this is as twisted as the cats that wrote Hostel. It takes a special human being to actually do this. Worse off, how the fuck are the people that were on the bus going to exist after this? I wish there was some sorta news follow up on the mental state of the onlookers. That is the stuff that facinates me. I know i had to get mental help after seeing a head decapitated in a car accident. I wasnt in the accident, but that shit sat with me for years after. This is a whole new ballgame.

  61. And dude was Asian. Asians don’t murder people! (Well just each other in Vancouver gangs I guess.)Asians are like all law abiding and peaceful and stuff. They do origami and write haiku. WTF?Disclaimer: The incredulousness expressed in this post is both genuine AND tongue-in-cheek. While surprised, the poster is indeed aware that Asians do not always fit the stereotypes mentioned above. So, please before you humorless glassy-eyed activist types rush in with your judgments of “Generalization! Racism! Stupid!” , please take Obama’s dick out of your mouth and think for a moment, then go back quietly (or noisily) to what you were doing.

  62. im sorta stunned about that too.this is a case that will have mental health people getting mugged with questions for a long while.

  63. How long before someone starts saying: yeah, the killer was mentally ill, but he didn’t get the help he needed…poor killer. Poor, poor killer. I’m so sick of hearing that.
