I don’t mean to sound mean or judgmental but if you are stuck in a minimum wage job the best hope you have is to take charge of your future as much as you can. Upgrade your education. Maybe start by doing some remedial math and English courses to get your confidence up. Then look for some skill building classes – anything to get you out of the minimum wage bracket. If you are forever dependent on government to increase your minimum wage you will be disappointed.
Oh! Well, I like McNeil… he looks better with his beard, but I think he’s headed in the right direction even without it.
Minimum wage is a trap. It’s meant for people who are very young, or who are in an entry-level job.
Minimum wage is the absolute lowest wage permitted by law–that means that no matter how high it is set, a person earning minimum wage will always be earning a wage far below that of every other person. You never get a “raise” on minimum wage–it doesn’t matter if it’s a dime or $10.00–you are always at the minimum.
You need to follow Eggy’s advice above and start working towards a skill that will pay you more than the minimum wage. Do it now. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain.
You think that’s weak? Trying making more than min.wage and seeing your employer face to face telling you about a great raise you’re getting and it end up being a nickel, and him smiling like he’s doing something great.
