To: A police officer. Place: Corner of 102 highway and Joseph Howe Dr. If you think nobody saw you, you were wrong. You put on your lights, got everyone to move out of your way, did a uturn from the exit ramp to the on ramp, ran up over the curb while making your turn and then followed traffic calmly until you realized you bent your front rim and flattened your tire making your douche turn. Way to go! Police lights are for emergencies only! Not just because you don’t want to sit in traffic and patiently wait your turn. Now you have to sit on the side of the road, call your dispatch and look like a complete and utter tool until someone comes to change your tire, because undoubtedly someone of your social stature doesn’t change tires. Thanks for the bill dickhead, the public loves paying for your stupid mistakes. I’m sure if any regular person tried that shit they would have been rewarded with a large ticket, a stern talking to about public safety and possibly a day in court. —Ever Watchful Public Eye

Now you were, of course, listening to your police scanner at the time. Right? I mean , that’s how you know he wasn’t responding to a call. And you were sitting next to him when he made his Smokey & the Bandit turn. Right? that’s how you know he wasn’t immediately aware of the damage to his vehicle and was looking for a safe spot to pull over. And when you stopped to ask if he needed assistance, that’s when he broke down and confessed his douchebaggery to you, the taxpaying, law-abiding citizen, Right?
Because otherwise, there’s a fuck of a lot of conjecture at work here, on your part. You may be 100% correct in your assumptions, but that’s all they are. Assumptions.
John, you beat me to it. Gotta love how people know what is going on in a police vehicle without being in it, hearing the calls or what is happening.
Hmmm. Maybe ob wasn’t in the police vehicle to hear what was going on, but does that excuse the abuse of a police vehicle. I seem to remember a lady police officer was charged in an accident on quinpool rd a few years back because she flew through an intersection with no regard for public safety. So I guess even an emergency doesn’t excuse blatant disregard for safety and property.
I myself have witnessed police abuse their lights to get through an intersection and then follow traffic, seeming to me to be pointless abuse of authority. If you think this doesn’t happen I think you should pull your heads out of your asses. There was a story in the paper either yesterday or today where police smashed a mans head off the pavement breaking his nose and the bone under his eye while he was pulled over for impaired driving. The judge dismissed the charges and an investigation into their actions will be launched. Way to go blue, not only did the man get away with impaired driving but taxpayers are now going to foot the bill for an investigation and subsequent trial. Not to mention the poor guy that was tazed to death in the Vancouver airport, so I guess that if situations like these arise that maybe it plausible that this small potatoes incident may have been an abuse of authority.
Defending this by saying ” ob wasn’t listening to a police scanner ” is a stupid defense. Prudent and safe techniques are taught to officers to avoid situations exactly like this one.
Is that newish rule to slow down to 60kph and pull into the other lane when passing an emergency vehicle with its lights on still in effect? I feel like I’m the only one observing it and like a bit of a tool for slowing down so much.
yep, its in effect for professionals but you don’t have to do it if its your grade 1 teacher that is changing a flat
I’ve seen this happen many times. I’m tired of hearing “they were probably responding to a call, flipped the lights on to get past traffic but didn’t want to go lights and sirens the whole way for X reason”. Yeah, Ok I’m sure in some cases that is it but I have on many occasions seen them do it to get around a line up of traffic, or to make an illegal left (ie: off North down Agricola) then to happily meander down the street.
Abuse is abuse. And the karma police obviously did its duty! Good enough for HRPD.
The cops might have been responding to a call. OP you know nothing. I’ve seen cop cars drive over medians/curbs before without problem. Hopefully they catch you next time doing something stupid and give you a ticket.
busted! haha
… first off… breaking the orbital bone… NASTY. Just Fuckin Brutal.
you try going 5 minutes without moving your face in any way… let alone the time taken to heal…
that being said,
people do know the cops gets call that they just can’t rush to, alarms sounding…
ie. police raids / search warrants / looking for perps….
if they hear the popo’s coming, they’re flushing that shit or lose it in bushes long before the cops can nab em.
