My God, this sounds like a situation I may find myself in…applying for many jobs, few interviews, one being for a job that pays $11 and will cost me thousands in gas and a car for 6 months of work. And I also have two degrees (one undergraduate and one graduate). Is it too much to ask for a decent wage so I can get ahead in life and not be living pay cheque to pay cheque?
And what do “white men” have to do with it? Should someone have posted this bitch using “black men” in it’s place, how would that sound to you…?!
Maybe look for another job…
Try singing some Johnny Rebel tunes to lighten up the workplace.
Oh man, Coast Brigade is gonna have a field day working Maggies Farm on this one! Stupid move OB, mentioning race/gender/sexual preference in your bitch.
Enquiring minds want to know: Was it the double-barrel powerhouse of Psychology and Political Science?
Not me Crank. I much prefer hanging around Alice’s Restaurant, spittin’ and pickin’ ma nose.
Bibliomudgeon = Epic.
That is all.
I don’t understand why more people don’t find out what the job market is before they go get their useless degrees. This “do what makes you happy” attitude schools promote is not realistic.
I make 12 bucks plus commission and I have no degrees.. come work here?
Come to Toronto. I have three degrees, professional accreditation, plus the white-collar job to go with it all. Still, a TTC ticket-taker with a high school diploma earns nearly twice my salary. I’m not complaining; I love my work & I work hard to be successful.
Here’s a hint: Get over ‘race’ as an excuse. You are by blaming others for your lack of achievement. No one’s responsible for your success except you, regardless of race. If you don’t like your situation, work to change your situation.
Why is it that some with all these degrees figure they are the beat all end all. If what you studied is in a hiring freeze or funk what do you expect. Good luck but FFS stop pissing and moaning and give up the Race BS.
yeah the race card kinda threw me off. Has nothing to do with race. Pretty sure when my dad fires someone they don’t say “takin it from the black man”
People like you are the only reason race still matters
Check these out, OB:

Although, you MAY want to wait until after tonight to see if it’s worth applying or not.
If you have two degrees and you’re making 11 bucks an hour then i see one of three realities.. Either you’re right out of school in which case suck it up. You have no experience and THAT’s what your boss cares about. Or you suck at what you do and should have maybe chosen something you’re better at. Or your two degrees are in art history and theatre.
Considering you played the race card because you’re going through something EVERY recent grad goes through a forth possibility comes to mind….
You have shit for attitude. Unless you’re goddamned dr house, you really need to adjust your attitude because chances are you’re just one of many.
ah yes vastie, the budget
I think the white men remark was a literary reference of sorts to Michael Moore’s book ‘Stupid White Men’, which talks about the 1% & the working class etc.
I agree with the OB, these employers are RE-DICK! Did you ever look at the job bank ads and the qualifications/credentials they require you to have. They list all these degrees and shit and the salary is complete bullshit – a few sniffs away from minimum wage. Uh school ain’t cheap, we gotta pay these big tuitions back and why should we earn the same as the burger burners who didn’t invest in an education? There should be industry standards and minimums. This shit is insulting. These employers are making a killing by cheaping out on their workers and its not fair. I suggest you show up for work and just pretend to work. Surf the net all day long and then when they fire you, enjoy the EI for 8 months and then start fresh.
EDUCATION VS. TRAINING
Ah, here we go again. A university degree – when you say a “degree” I assume you ARE talking about a university degree and not some kind of diploma or certificate – is for the cultivation of the mind and not for some sort of job preparation. That is called “training.”
Sadly, it appears that not only the poster but many others here make the same mistake. They talk about “useless” degrees. They don’t realize that they are employing a misguided criterion, that of “use,” to determine the value of a degree. But the “use criterion” – that of a narrow pragmatic economic utility – is misguided in assessing the value of a degree since the concept of utility has its natural home in training and not education properly understood. The word “get” in the title of your bitch says it all. The right word should be “become.”
If economic gain is your motivation, then train yourself accordingly in a field with good job prospects. If education, i.e., the cultivation of the mind is your motivation, then obtain a degree (or degrees) in the Humanities or in the theoretical end of the Sciences.
Of course, there is always the third option. You don’t have to take it from whitey. What about becoming a hip-hop star?
A pleasure as always.
Cheerio!
i have two degrees and it took me less than 3 months to find a union position at a sweet institution and i have turned down three job offers since then. something tells me you suck, bitcher, not ‘white men’ or whatevertf.
Sounds like one of Ivan’s tobacco pickers is having a bad day.
Now that you mention it, Great-Grandad Beauregard Sonofabitch used to mention a fellow that did odd jobs and chores in exchange for room and board.

You may have to start doing your job a little less proficiently so the boss will quit adding tasks.
I’m assuming the $11.00/hr is not in your chosen field, you’ll have find out where they’re hiring at a good salary and move there. Not much to say other than that.
yeah o.p., real nice statement there, and with an atitude like that, you won’t be taking it much longer. if i was your boss, i toss your sorry fucking ass out the door. some people would damn near kill today, to get 11 bucks an hour. and if race is a big problem to you, you can always use that little discrimination card you got in your crackerjack box. get fucking real idiot.
Another mistake that job seekers make is relying on job banks. A lot of professional entry level jobs are not necessarily posted online. Networking is also an effective way to get a good job. Put yourself out there. Join LinkedIn, go to offices and ask to speak to HR people. Attend industry conventions. Job seeking is harder work than sitting on your ass in front of the computer all day.
I have a degree of tolerance. But that’s wearing thin.
