To my ex-friend who has been sucking off the welfare tit for 10 years – thanks for using my hard earned tax money so you can drink and smoke your brains out while sitting on your lazy ass. Food isn’t even a priority for you, just getting wasted. I tried to fucking help you but gave up when you refused to help yourself. I’ve listened to every excuse in the world why you can’t work, even though you are perfectly capable. And I’m also sick and fucking tired of how you’re a victim. The only victims here are the taxpayers of Nova Scotia.

I am so sick of people, like the one you described, taking advantage of a much needed crutch and making those who really need social assistance look so bad! I don’t understand how people can stay in the system for so long without feeling ashamed of it. I know what it’s like on welfare, as I was stuck on it for 3 years. I didn’t want to be on it but at the time (new baby, no daddy, no childcare) I had no choice. I couldn’t stand having to admit to people that I didn’t have a job and that I was sponging off of society. I did, however, have a choice and the opportunity to get off of it. The Dept. of Community Services paid for me to go back to school which resulted in my getting hired by an awesome company! Unless you aren’t capable of working, being in the system for 10 years is RI-FREAKIN-DICULOUS!!! Tell your friend to fuck off with the excuses and get back out into society. In the long run, they will feel so much better about themselves. Can I take a stab in the dark and assume that this is a female who’s using her kid(s) as an excuse?
I don’t think ANYONE should be allowed to use any of the social assistance options available for ten years, it’s just absolutely unconscionable that our government allows this to continue. Oh and if you have any specific proof of your friends abuse of the system, you can always report her.
Lindsay, You weren’t sponging off of society.not even close, Honey.I admire your determination to go back to school, and the fact that you used the resources that were available to you by the Dept. of Community Services to do so only shows that you have used the system the way it should be. It’s in place for people that are in situations like yours, and those who sit on thier useless asses and collect assistance because they’re too lazy to get out and work for a living could learn quite a bit from you.
Congrats on getting off the welfare Lindsay. I wonder if this girl is the same one I know (they are all the same) she has a few kids smokes all the pot she can drinks all the time is more physically fit than I am and has never worked a day in her life. Did she drop out of highschool to get her money and used abortions as birth control until she needs more cash and has another child? I seriously hate these woman and the worst part is they have a man either living with them or paying their bills. Stand on the corner bitches and earn your money instead of keep taking mine. I hear you I fucking hate it.
Maybe she is on a disability because of mental health and or addiction issues – party favours instead of food? Sounds like a prob. At $189 a month for food and extras…and $535 max for shelter, that’s not a happy party. There’s more to her situation, methinks.
Yeah, but if you’re working under the table or living with a guy who’s paying your bills then the money coming from DCS is just gravy! And depending on how many kids she’s got, she’s getting more than we think… In any case, 10 years is a bit much
