And so far, NOBODY, has suggested a species ban. It may have taken council 10 years to finally protect us from marauding cats; did you honestly think that dogs wouldn’t be next.
Flexi-leads are giant pieces of shit that break easily, can fall out of your hand when a strong dog pulls, and hard to control your dog with. So yeah, as reaponsible dog owner I support their ban, or at least encourage people not to use them. A dog can be well exercised without one. A properly used nylon set-length leash is ideal for both human and dog.
Yes, your out of control dogs do scare me. They are natural scavengers, that attack and kill other animals or humans for food sometimes.
There needs to be laws for them as well as you and I.

Frig, flexi leads are the only thing I have for Blue. I’ve had him for 6 years, and he’s on his second lead(I broke the first one). But I’m also a responsible dog owner, and lead training was a top priority.

There are as many good reasons to use flexi leads as there are people who prefer them. I walk our neighbours dogs on the rail trail in SMBay and it allows me not to let them take off and allows them to do a bit of running and woods snuffling that I might not otherwise be comfortable with letting them do. If you don’t like them, don’t use them.

I’m in favor of BSL. All, douchebags, fucktards and S.E.T.s should be muzzled and restrained when out in public. They should have to pass a test in common courtesy and common sense before being allowed outside to buy smokes, Golden glow or lotto tickets. And the only animals they are allowed to own are the Peduculosis pubi nurtured in their crotch fur.

It’s being enforced in ON PG… it’s just not being reported on…. because someone cutting a dog’s throat and hanging them on a pole isn’t news. Car window smashed and the dog… that ‘looked like a pitbull’ removed and its neck snapped, carcass tossed next to car. Both of those happened to friends of mine. Poor Poppy and Dag… Both of those were humans TCB but it should never have happened. Period. BSL IS coming… it’s a matter of when and who’s willing to fight against it.
BSL is to animal control what the Long Gun Registry is to public safety.

BSL is absolute bullshit. I don’t care how many stats you want to throw at me. The bottom line is that it is all how the dog is raised and treated. Full stop. I have met, petted and snuggled pitbulls/amstaffs, mastiffs, dobermans and rotties who were nothing more than big cuddley sooks. It’s because they were raised, trained and treated with love, respect and were properly socialized. I have met tiny 1/2 pound chihuahuas, poms, pekinese and other small breeds that would tear the ankle off you as soon as look at you. Again, it’s all on how the dog is raised and treated that dictates how it is going to act/react in certain situations. Nobody seems to understand this. All they see is the big, nasty, flesh-eating pitbull and they instantly think dangerous and/or should be destroyed. And I blame the fucking media for 80% of this. Making uninformed claims and sensationalism. Nobody wants to hear a story about a lhasa apso that bit some kid in the ankle. But if it were a doberman or amstaff…well, they are big and intimidating. They MUST be dangerous. The other 20% I blame on the irresponsible owners. The ones who get their dog and then it spends the majority of it’s life tied up outside with little to no human contact. Or the ones who just buy the big intimidating breeds because one appeared in their favourite rap artist’s latest music video. The ones that don’t socialize and properly train their dogs. The ones who abuse or neglect them. THESE people are the real problem. So why the fuck isn’t anything being done about them? Fuck Breed Specific Legislation….it should be Owner Specific Legislation.

Years ago I read a book a an ex-British Army special forces operator. His team were conducting long term surveillance on a known IRA bombmaker in Londonderry. Wiretaps revealed that he had just bought a Rottweiler puppy for home security and an animal trainer told him to (stop reading here Painey) tie him up alone in the backyard, feed him irregularly, beat him and have random strangers come into the yard and abuse him. So, the S.A.S. guys made a point of visiting the dog at night, feeding him treats from the mess, taking him to a nearby soccer pitch to play and even getting the medic to treat his owner-inflicted injuries. Predictably the dog grew up to be aggressive to everyone except the British soldiers who essentially had free run of the owner’s house when he wasn’t there. The bombmaker later died when one of his devices detonated “prematurely” >: )

I think the retractable leashes are fine for small dogs. I’d support a by law that says all dogs over x amount of pounds need to have old school leashes.
