We are so lame
It’s 2007—Nova Scotia should catch up with the times. Teens are getting pregnant only to have their babies taken away or given up for adoption. Why do we not have abortion clinics in Halifax? Why is abortion not an accessible option for young women? Beca

They do abortions at the QEII. A family doctor or a doctor at Planned Parenthood can make the appointment. I would assume that abortion was just not an option for these girls, either for moral or some other reasons.
Halifax is not one of the most segregated and racist cities in Canada. Where do you come up with this?
AR- if girls need to have this procedure it is available- just like KK says, as far as “old-fashioned, conservative, outdated province. Halifax is one of the most segregated, racist cities in Canada”I think there is alot worse out there- and while there could always be improvements, I am proud to live here.I think you need to get your facts straight.
What never ceases to amaze me is that with all the forms of birth control out there, women still get pregnant ‘accidently’. And don’t give me that ‘heat of the moment’ shit. If you don’t want a kid, then take the proper precautions before screwing around.
I agree with Luc to a certain degree….there is alot of different types of birth control available. I don’t have empathy for young women that don’t protect themselves and end up pregnant. If you are old enough to have sex then you are old enough to make the choice to protect yourself. Then there are those that are raped, attacked etc. For all individuals no matter what the circumstance abortion is their right if they choose and abortion IS available at the QE2. By the way how exactly does Halifax seem outdated and backwards?
It was obvious that you have never experienced a situation in which you would have to get an abortion. If you simply go to your family doctor they will promptly refer you to a hospital in Halifax that will perform an abortion without judgment or cost. The reason why Halifax does not have, or need, an abortion clinic is to avoid protesters and religious fanatics from picketing outside. Do your research before you make crazy uneducated comments about the city that we love.
Want to prevent a pregnancy? Keep your damn legs closed!!! Why is that so hard to understand. If you’re gonna do something, then live with the consequences. We need to start handing out more Darwin awards. Winners will be shot on sight or like the Spartans use to do, thrown off the edge of a cliff.
What a stupid attitude Mike. You a believer in born again virginity too?Expecting people to just “say no” is infantile in it’s logic when the average age of marriage for women in this country has risen to 27-28. I’ll agree with your point when we all go back to marrying off the youngins at 14 and normal desires can be handled that way.
Sorry guys -i just don’t think you should be debating how WOMEN should be “Saying No”- who the fuck should they be “saying No” TO! it takes 2 to produce and to put the owness on the woman is truly sexist!prevention is about education simple as that!Do I think that PEOPLE should look at abortion as birth control. NO Way!But the “Ranter” should be aware that there are solutions to this problem here and that we all need to be proactive! to think it’s about keeping “your legs shut” is really ridiculous and frankly, not too be harsh I hope you don’t have children until you get some more education yourself.
Sorry to rain on your rose coloured parade Chuck, but it’s not a stupid attitude. If you don’t have the birth control or protection, then keep your damn legs closed. Simple as that. I accidently got pregnant. Whoops. Well deal with it! Pregnancies don’t “just” happen. It took two people to do it, so take some responsibility for your actions! There are plenty of things people can do other than intercourse if they’re horny. Education helps, but look how many unplanned pregnancies still happen.
OK fine, I thought you were advocating an abstinence only approach (which is insane and dangerous).Still, if an accidental pregnancy happened, then it happened and thankfully we live in a time and place it can de handled properly if chosen.
5th Floor of the VG I believe…TPU or Therapeutic Pregancy Unit…they do abortions there.
OK listen up ALL OF YOU!!YES, protection is a necessity, YES, both are responsible if it is not used, and YES, even WITH protection there are ACCIDENTS!As far as “keep your damn legs closed”, men have zippers, and they can be kept closed too. Sally is right, the VG does have them available. This should be a decision made by BOTH parents because BOTH made the decision to have sex. So please, don’t blame one person, and ALWAYS use protection!
A number of years ago, I had a condom break. I was a little concerned about disease, but I was not concerned about pregancy, because I had backup. I was also using a contraceptive sponge. Well, the sponge failed. That’s right, I was the one-in-a-million, or whatever the statistic is. And there I was, knocked up, in spite of having used not one, but TWO reliable forms of birth control. So yes, accidents do indeed happen. And you, Mr. Keep-Your-Damn-Legs-Closed: I hereby sentence YOU to Keep Your Damn Zipper Up until you get married and are damn sure you want a kid.
You are totally right we are are a bunch of conservative racists. Think about it how many rich black people do you know? We shove all the black people in public housing so they will be far away from us wealthy white people where the poor blacks are left to their own devices.
Zac & Ranter,What in the hell does racism and segregation have to do with accessibility to abortion?????
Coyote:Since you ended up getting pregnant, that was something you and your partner have to take responsibility for. Yes, I agree that men could keep their zippers zipped as well. But if you don’t consent, then nobody gets pregnant do they?Nobody’s blaming women or men for pregnancies. What I’m saying is to keep your legs closed unless you’re prepared for the consequences of what happens. That’s right, accidents do happen and as a result, there are unplanned pregnancies. Until you’re prepared to take care of that child, try holding off. Read my other posts, I said that it takes 2 people to produce a child.
did u read the other part of the bitch? She or he said halifax is segregated and racist
Mike,I believe I speak for everyone here when I say: you are a NARROW-MINDED FUCKING ASSHOLE, and do you think that every poor, unfortunate woman that sits on your little dick is ready and willing to have your pathetic spawn? Hell no, so maybe you should consider abstinence!
Ok to all of you close-minded asshats that are saying keep your legs closed and you won’t get pregnant, or don’t consent and you won’t get pregnant. Have you ever heard of RAPE! A woman doesn’t consent to that and YES IT CAN CAUSE PREGNANCY! Now even rape victims can say no to abortion because they don’t agree with it and then put their child up for adoption. And why. Because it is their choice! And if you were trying for years to get pregnant and the only option for you was adoption, I think you would have quite a different take on all this. Whether they are staying with their mothers or being put up for adoption they are making someone very happy.
I wonder if any of these condom free people are even getting an AIDS test.
