Why oh why dear produce growers do you insist on waxing our fruit?
A shiny apple is beautiful. One covered in white sludge after washing is NOT.

  1. Did you check where it came from? Likely travelled thousands of kilometers. If not, it was harvested 7 months ago. Either way it’s not gonna look pretty without some doctoring up.

  2. Picked fruit gets washed and brushed, which happens to remove natural wax. Which is why a commercial wax made from natural ingredients is applied to the fruit before packing.

Unless you don’t mind buying dried out, soft and wrinkly apples and pears, I wouldn’t complain too much about the waxing.

  3. now I know why I don’t eat enough fruit…
that sounds pretty nasty. Shouldn’t have to tolerate that what with the valley so close by.
