Alright these anti idling/warming up your vehicle commercials are bogus and clearly corrupt with the service guy saying using your starter more won’t hurt it………………….. Has anyone here ever topped off their car with oil that was outside on a cold january day? It flows very slowly like molasses……Using your starter more won’t make it wear out quicker………. uh huh………. Ever start your vehicle on a cold morning and hear it is a little louder and revs higher and its not as smooth… because its trying to get all that cold oil flowing…. Not to mention your transmission is cold too it needs to be gently driven for the first couple of minutes.. to get that cold fluid circulating when the car is warmed up and I’m stuck in traffic for a long while I turn the car off if its the summer time or spring or fall if its not too cold of course but seriously anyone who believes this crap is full of shit. And I will keep warming up my car for at least 2 or three minutes every morning….

  1. There was a study done last year (I don’t have a link, sorry) that showed that allowing a car to warm up for 3-5 minutes before going out in the winter is the best thing to do. It allows the lubricants to get warmed up, defrosts/defogs the windshields and warms up the catalytic convertor before the engine goes into full usage, minimizing the overall emissions for the trip.

  2. I don’t see how facts can argue with one of those lame-ass cartoons that the NS government has produced as propaganda pieces.

  3. Heres a fact thats been in effect since forever . Start your car on a cold day – run 30 seconds and then drive it . It warms faster for one – two – idle running in cold weather actually can cause more damage then good because your taking longer to warm it up . Thereby , to those that run the thing for 20 minutes – good luck .
