I went to a jazz festival today, which shall remain unnamed, not much actual jazz in evidence, either on stage or in the program. Oliver Jones-yaahhh. But your reviewer calls Lauren Hill pure jazz for playing Bob Marley tunes, and says that Feelin’ Good is a Nina Simone tune- NOT, was written as a Broadway song by Anthony Newley and Leslie Briscusse, and has been recorded by many different people. Also went there after work Thursday, and bought 2 beer tickets, got a beer and when I went back for my second, was told bar is closed, seriously at 5pm. . . . . .wtf???? —Hungry Pete

Check out the line up at the Ottawa “Bluesfest” not too bluesy. I think these events should just be called “music” festivals or odd names like Osheaga or something like that.
There had to be at least some Jazz there. On the ferry I saw Lester Cornkrick and Howard T.J. Moon speaking Jazz scat.
Jazz is such a broad spectrum but bar hours should ALWAYS be static.
There aren’t too many multi-act events or festivals these days, so you might as well enjoy it for what it is. It could be called the ‘elevator music fest’ and i would still go.
The bar situation with the bizarre tickets and weird operations has become a staple of jazz fest. Keep in mind that it is a volunteer event, so there isn’t much in the way of bar operating experience. If you are an experienced bartender or manager, please volunteer for this event; the public would love you!
There are lot of multi-act events, just not here 🙂
