I went to a jazz festival today, which shall remain unnamed, not much actual jazz in evidence, either on stage or in the program. Oliver Jones-yaahhh. But your reviewer calls Lauren Hill pure jazz for playing Bob Marley tunes, and says that Feelin’ Good is a Nina Simone tune- NOT, was written as a Broadway song by Anthony Newley and Leslie Briscusse, and has been recorded by many different people. Also went there after work Thursday, and bought 2 beer tickets, got a beer and when I went back for my second, was told bar is closed, seriously at 5pm. . . . . .wtf???? —Hungry Pete

  1. Check out the line up at the Ottawa “Bluesfest” not too bluesy. I think these events should just be called “music” festivals or odd names like Osheaga or something like that.

  2. There had to be at least some Jazz there. On the ferry I saw Lester Cornkrick and Howard T.J. Moon speaking Jazz scat.

  3. There aren’t too many multi-act events or festivals these days, so you might as well enjoy it for what it is. It could be called the ‘elevator music fest’ and i would still go.

The bar situation with the bizarre tickets and weird operations has become a staple of jazz fest. Keep in mind that it is a volunteer event, so there isn’t much in the way of bar operating experience. If you are an experienced bartender or manager, please volunteer for this event; the public would love you!
